The 11th Annual Rifle Gap Ice Fishing Tournament was a great success! Although the number of fishermen was down due to a worsening economy, there were still 341 adults and 110 kids participating. The weather was probably the best ever. Morning temperatures were about 8 degrees, but cloud-free skies quickly warmed the temperature to the upper 30's. Fishing was also outstanding with some people catching perch in the hundreds. The largest pike ever caught in the tournament measured out at 35 1/2" and was caught by Jeremiah Walker of Grand Junction. The Hidden Length contest was won by Ken Sanchez of Rifle with the randomly drawn length of 16 3/4".
A big thanks to all of our sponsors who provided tackle for the raffles. Sportsmen’s Warehouse in Grand Junction and PowerPro Fishing line were very helpful again this year. Thanks to all who participated and to our sponsors. Colorado Sportsmen Wildlife Fund uses the proceeds to buy equipment for our kids' Pathway to Fishing program.
