Wildlife Management Public Education
Activities Council

The Wildlife Management Public Education Fund was established in 1998 to finance the design and development of a comprehensive media program to educate the public, especially the urban public, about the values of wildlife, wildlife management and how hunting and fishing are important in the wildlife management equation.

The fund is financed by a 75¢ surcharge on hunting and fishing licenses sold in Colorado, approved by the State legislature in 2005.

The fund is administered by The Wildlife Management Public Education Advisory Council (PEAC), nine representatives of various interests throughout Colorado.

  • Two represent the hunting and fishing public east of the continental divide.
  • Two represent the hunting and fishing public west of the continental divide.
  • One represents the agriculture and livestock industry.
  • Another represents municipalities while the sixth represents counties.
  • The eighth member is a media/marketing expert.
  • The final member represents the Colorado Division of Wildlife.

The Council meets as necessary at the Colorado Division of Wildlife headquarters in Denver.
