Antique Chinese Jade Belt Hook with Opposing Dragons, Magnifying Glass

Description:

This wonderful piece of carved jade that formerly was intended, I believe, as a belt hook. It has been since fastened to a custom forged Gilt Magnifying Glass with the jade acting as a handle. The jade piece is of a beautiful, very light celadon color. It is carved into the form of two opposing dragons, one with a full body and bearded. The jade is 4.5" in length, 1" wide, 1.25" tall and has a button on the back that is used to fasten it to the gilt back brace, which is engraved on both sides with bamboo. The piece as a total measures 8" in length. There is no damage to the jade. The brace is in nice condition and has normal wear for its age.Small scratch to the glass. It has a pouch that covers the glass. I believe this is from the Qing Dynasty period, probably circa 1880 but was told the jade is much earlier. It clearly is quite old and it certainly is beautifully crafted and carved.
