"Le Melodie" or "Harmonie" Bronze by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse


Description:


French 19th century bronze of a lady with a lyre representing an allegory of music, known as "Le Melodie" or "Harmonie" by Albert Ernest Carrier-Belleuse (1824-1887). An identical cast of this bronze is displayed in the Musikinstrumenten Museum in Berlin.

"Carrier-Belleuse Hors Concours" is inscribed on the side of the base and inscribed Harmonie par Carrier-Belleuse Hors Concours on a plaque at bottom of base. Stands 31 inches tall by 17 inches wide.

Albert-Ernest Carrier-Belleuse, best known by his surname, Carrier-Belleuse, was both a sculptor and a painter that studied under the tutorship of David d'Angers. His first public showing was in the Paris Salon of 1851. He was regarded as one of the most prolific French sculptors of his day and went on to achieve fame both as an artist and for being the teacher of the world renowned Auguste Rodin. Rodin worked as an assistant in the studio of Carrier-Belleuse between 1864 and 1870.
