French Empire Egyptian Revival Dore Bronze Portico Mantel Clock


Description:

This remarkably well detailed time-piece is mounted by finely chiseled and expertly cast gilded bronze. The top has placed in the center a gilt bronze eagle. Surmounted by a complex vase overflowing with flowers, berries with twists of foliage mixed throughout. The clock case is crafted of black marbled angular columns on either side lifting the cylindrical movement casing, each being embellished with an Egyptian figure balancing a vessel overflowing with fruits of the field over a foliate rosette. Twin urn mounts rest at the top of each column with pineapple and floral finials. The porcelain dial is plain with a Roman numeral inner chapter ring and an Arabic numeral outer ring, the twin key holes at IV and VIII with accompanying chipping.


A sunburst pendulum hangs from the silk suspension movement. The white marble base is inset with a plaque with detailed repeated flowers and leaves. The base rests over turned bronze feet. It stands 18" Tall by 10.5" across and 3.5" deep.
A rare and fine timepiece that is finely detailed and in simply exceptional condition, this dramatic strike point will certainly be a defining piece over the fireplace or in the hallway.
