Clarence Drew Bartlett was born in the United States in the year 1863. He was a pupil of many internationally known artist including William Merrit Chase (1849- 1916), Jean-Joseph Benjamin-Constant (also known as Benjamin Constant) (1845-1992), Jules Joseph Lefebvre (1836-1911), Jean-Léon Gérôme (1824-1904, and Franz von Lenbach, (1836-1904). His credibility as a pupil of all these master portrait painters fueled his career. In the late 19th early 20th Century he was in London for over a decade. Bartlett painted portraits of some of Europe's most important and wealthy aristocrats including, H.R.H Princess Victoria Eugenie of Battenberg, Queen of Spain, H.R.H The Duke of Cambridge, Admiral Sir John Fisher, General Sir John Gordon and Lady Gordon, Sir George Cooper and Lady Cooper, Lady Vivian, Lady St. Oswald and Lady Clementina Waring to name a few.

After returning to New York City in the early 1900, he opened
"Studio 609" at the Broadway Arcade on Sixth and Ninth Ave. Here he continued to paint, give lessons, and exhibit his works of art. He is known for Pastel Portraiture, Tonalist landscapes, and vivid Still Life oil paintings . The date of his death is not known.
