"Item #AT-0347- "Grey Day, Ogunquit Surf" Oil on Canvas by George L. Morris (1890-1983)

George Louis Morris was born September 21, 1890 in Portland Maine. Started off his early years as a salesman for his fathers business, but early on learned his love for painting would soon take over his life. Living most of his life in Portland Maine with his wife Marion (Foster Thorndike) Morris. He loved to paint the New England coast especially the town of Ogunquit Maine. His seascapes always involved crashing waves and moss covered rocks, boats or the Charming New England town of Ogunquit. His favorite places to paint were Perkins Cove, and The Marginal Way. This is a cliff walk with coastal views, benches and a lighthouse that lead to a hidden cove of boats and docks and fisherman's shacks. He exhibited many places along the mid-west and the east coast most notably The Closson Galleries, Cincinnati, OH and The Ogunquit Museum of Art. He painted and sold his work in a small studio gallery located on Shore Road in the center of Ogunquit. He died October 2, 1983 in Ogunquit.
