A Charming Oil on Canvas Titled "Ogunquit Surf " by George L. Morris (1890 - 1983) Dated 1933

Oil on canvas depicting a seascape with white capped waves crashing against the rocky shore line most likely the Marginal Way. Presented in an ornate gilt frame with carved geometric motif, beads and a foliate fillet. It has  "Ogunquit Surf" on plaque mounted on frame. Signed front lower right.  Signed on verso on the stretcher. " Gray Day, Marine, Ogunquit Maine, Painted by Geo.L Morris, Ogunquit, Me.

Framed in hand carved period style gilt frame.

George Louis Morris was born September 21, 1890 in Portland Maine. Started off his early years as a salesman for his fathers business, but early on learned his love for painting would soon take over his life. Living most of his life in Portland Maine with his wife Marion (Foster Thorndike) Morris.  He loved to paint the New England coast especially the town of Ogunquit Maine.  His seascapes always involved crashing waves and moss covered rocks, boats or the Charming New England town of Ogunquit.   His favorite places to paint were Perkins Cove, and The Marginal Way. This is a cliff walk with coastal views, benches and a lighthouse that lead to a  hidden cove of boats and docks and fisherman's shacks.  He exhibited many places along the mid-west and the east coast most notably The Closson Galleries, Cincinnati, OH and The Ogunquit Museum of Art.  He painted and sold his work in a small studio gallery located on Shore Road in the center of Ogunquit.  He died October 2, 1983 in  Ogunquit.
