Louis Claude Paviot was born in Lhuis in the Ain region of France in 1872. He studied in Paris under Jean-Paul Laurens and Doucet. A painter of landscapes, Paris and Lyon cityscapes, nudes, and floral still-lifes.

He joined the Societé Lyonnais des Beaux Arts in 1896, exhibiting with them after the turn of the century. A friend of Matisse, Renoir, Bonnard, and Denis, he exhibited with them at the Salon des Independants in Paris. He exhibited at The Salon d'Automne and was admitted to the Salon du Sud-Est from 1934-1940.

J. Holl a writer for Cahiers d'Art Magazine, speaks of his work as "a colorful realist" and the famous art critic Gustave Geffroy wrote that Paviot was among the ranks of Monet and Cezanne, along with Bonnard, Vuillard, A. André, Camoin and Valtat. The Musée des Beaux Arts de Lyon has two paintings by Louis Paviot, La toilette, 1906, and Maisons sous la neige, 1902.

He died in 1943.
