Frank W. Kent spent his early life between his birthplace in Salt Lake City, UT and in Idaho. Riding and working mostly during the summers on the west side of the Teton Mountains, he became well acquainted with the ways of the Shoshone and Blackfoot Indians before he was 18 years old. Later, this experience aided in paying the bills while he was illustrating for Wild West magazine in NY. His summers often found him back in the West where his sketchbooks with the subjects he knew so well were later used for his paintings.
Mr. Kent studied at the Chicago Art Institute, the Art Students League in NY, and did private study in Europe. He took his formal education at the University of Utah and graduated M.F.A. at Syracuse University, NY. He became a specialist with the Fine Arts and worked in identification, attribution and appraisal of works for museums, colleges and private collections. His work in Cataloguing has been well established.

His professional experience included the Curatorial Department of the Metropolitan Mus. of Fine Art, NY, with a specialty in Renaissance and Baroque arts, and as a Professor of Fine Arts at Bradley U., IL and at Syracuse U. in NY. He also served for 11 years as the Director of the Crocker Art Gallery in Sacramento, CA.
Frank Kent has his paintings and prints represented in the permanent collections of the Chicago Art Inst., Rochester Memorial Mus., Syracuse Mus. of Fine Arts, Iowa State U., U of Utah, the Crocker Art Gal., Sacramento, as well as many private collections. He was also the author of two art related books: "A Search into the Unknown" (1968), and "Icons of the Community". (1970).
Although a versatile artist, Frank Kent is perhaps best remembered as a scholarly Cowboy and Indian artist of the "Taos School". His works, however, appear relatively infrequently on the open market today.

Reference. "Profile of Frank W. Kent, M.F.A., A.S.A.". No author, no pub., no date. This reference accompanied a painting purchased in 1980 from Anton Vonk, art dealer and conservator from the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam. Holland, who lived and had a studio at that time in Hopland, CA.
