Shelter Plus Care provides permanent housing and case management to families and individuals who were formerly homeless and chemically dependent. The program provides support in conjunction with housing so that our families can eventually assume their own lease and become fully independent.

HISTORY:
|
|
|
- We provide housing and support to 47 families in apartments scattered throughout Westchester County;
- In collaboration with the Veteran's Administration Supportive Housing Program in Montrose, we serve up to 15 formerly homeless single veterans in Northern Westchester;
- We provide housing for single mothers who are chemically dependent, are in early recovery, are just beginning a new job and are struggling to get off public assistance;
- A few apartments are available to single, chemically dependent chronically homeless individuals who are in treatment and have been living on the street, in an emergency shelter or in transitional housing.

SERVICES:

|
|
- Assist potential participant families to find and procure a suitable apartment that meets all "Rent Reasonableness" guidelines and Section 8 Housing Quality Standards;
- Make biweekly home visits at first and subsequent monthly visits as progress is made;
- Monitor treatment and supportive service participation;
- Help families and singles improve budgeting skills and work towards financial independence through active employment;
- Assist families and singles to negotiate problems with their Landlord and to work towards assuming their own lease.
