JIM CHAPLIN NAMED HUD SOUTHEAST REGIONAL DIRECTOR

ATLANTA - The U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development today announced that Jim Chaplin has been named as Regional Director for the eight states and two territories of HUD’s Southeast Region, based in Atlanta.

As Regional Director, Chaplin will serve as HUD’s liaison to mayors, city managers, elected representatives, state and local officials, Congressional delegations, stakeholders and customers in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee, and in Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands. He will oversee the delivery of HUD programs and services to communities, and evaluate their efficiency and effectiveness. Chaplin is one of 10 Regional Directors in the United States.

Chaplin has a long and distinguished career of 24 years of public service starting in 1981 as a member of the Colorado House of Representatives, where he served on the Appropriations Committee and the Local Government Committee.

In 1983, he was appointed by the Reagan Administration as an Executive Assistant in HUD’s Federal Housing Administration in Washington, D.C. From 1984-86, he was HUD’s Deputy Regional Administrator in Denver, and from 1986-95 he managed the HUD Office in Jacksonville, Florida, where he was responsible for the administration and delivery of HUD programs throughout the state.

Chaplin was a Senior Advisor in HUD’s Office of the Chief Financial Officer in Washington from 1995 to 1999. Since 1999, Mr. Chaplin has been a Senior Advisor in the Office of HUD/FHA Comptroller. In these positions he performed special assignments, which involved conducting studies and analyzing policies, programs and legislative initiatives, and devising and implementing changes to enhance the agency’s operations.

Prior to his federal service, Chaplin was a member of the boards of directors of the Colorado Housing Finance Authority and the Colorado State Board of Health. He also was Regional Vice President of the National Apartment Association, owned his own real estate company, and has extensive experience in property supervision and property management. Mr. Chaplin has also organized and conducted leadership seminars and lectured nationally on real estate issues.

Chaplin is a 1970 graduate of Brigham Young University where he was student body vice president for social activities. He was born in Charleston, South Carolina, is married and has four children.

James Taylor Chaplin graduated from Brigham Young High School in 1961.
