The LDS counselors and psychotherapists in the DC area meet in January, February, March, April, May, June, September, and November at the offices of Dr. Marlene Payne, one of the founding members of AMCAP in this area. We participate in a presentation by one of us and connect, refer and provide peer support at each session.
Our premier activity is our October Seminar for LDS leaders of 19 stakes and associated wards. The 2008 Seminar will be at the Oakton Stake Center on October 18 with the theme: "Beauty for Ashes" from Isaiah 61. Topics include: Knowing How and When to Refer, Stress / Finding Balance in Your Life, Understanding and Dealing with Addictions - Part I: The Addict and Part II: Helping the Spouse and Family; Loneliness and Depressing, Healthy Financial Managment, Healthy Marriages, Defiant Kids / Rebellious Teens / Not Fitting In, Helping Victims of Present and Past Abuse, and Medications, Therapy, and Spirituality.
