About Genetically Engineered / Altered "Food":
On the CBS program 60 Minutes 2, Wednesday Evening 8/7/2001 they reported that 70% of the food in our grocery stores is genetically engineered. Virtually everyone in the United States is eating some genetically engineered foods and without knowing about it. They (the food industries / Monsanto and other genetic engineering companies, etc.) slip this stuff into our food supply not only without asking us (the public) if it is what we want, or even if it's OK, but also WITHOUT EVEN TELLING US THAT THEY ARE DOING IT!
Why are they trying to do this secretively? What are they hiding? What don't they want us to know?
They started this about 6 years ago (1995) and now as more people are finding out about it and questioning what is going on, they are even fighting against having to label these substances (they call "food") that are genetically engineered / genetically altered.
Their position is that the public doesn't care, and say they don't see people "stampeding away" - - but the majority of the population is totally unaware of this!!!!! And, most people who learn about the condition of the genetically altered commercially grown "food" in the grocery stores begin to buy more and more "organically grown foods" and/or look for local farmers, or start to grow their own gardens - which is great for many reasons. This is what everyone should do, as well as to support Organic Farming efforts and put pressure on their congress people, etc. - to at the very least require informative labeling, if not - to get this &#%*%#! off the market. They operate on the premise that there is a food shortage. But there is not a problem of shortage, only of distribution. The real reasons are more obviously those of more production, more waste and more profit. And they will never do better than Nature has been doing and does. Everyone should do all they can to encourage and influence these companies and our government to forget about genetic engineering (for the most part) and quit wasting their / our money, time and health, and put that effort into growing natural (organic) nutrient rich crops.
