TRUE GRIT DAYS
2007

Mid-June through early September, we were very busy helping plan Ridgway's 1st annual True Grit Days.

It was a lot of hard work, but the event was a lot of fun!

Among other things, Barb laid out
the graphics and advertising for
the event.

The photo of Chimney Peak was taken by Steve.

The 3-day event kicked off
Friday night with a VIP Reception
at the Beaumont Hotel in Ouray.

Celebrities, Kim Darby, Angie Dickinson
and Johnny Crawford joined us. They
autographed posters before joining the VIPs.
Steve Guy, of Divide Ranch & Club was
the planning committee chairman.

September 8th & 9th, True Grit Days was held
in Ridgway Town Park. The weather was
beautiful and approximately 3,500 people
enjoyed the event.

Crowds lined up to get autographs from celebrities,
sat and enjoyed the music and cowboy poets onstage,
shopped vendors' booths, and enjoyed food and
beverages. The Beer Garden & BBQ were quite popular!

Gerry Weaver, wife of Dennis Weaver, visited Angie Dickinson and
brought her a photograph of Angie and Dennis on the set of "Pearl".

Angie even posed with a mountain lion.

Bob Boze Bell, Executive Editor/Co-Owner, TRUE WEST magazine was great fun to visit with.

Steve coordinated the Beer Garden in the Ridgway Area Chamber of Commerce tent. In addition to beer, wine, pop & water, RACC sold popcorn, event t-shirts, posters, True Grit movie posters and True Grit DVDs.

Barb was the banker and was busy keeping the cash boxes with not too many nor too few dollars!

Several people came to the event dressed in John Wayne and period costumes.

Bob Boze Bell kicked off the evening stage events with "True West (Grit) Moments" - tales of the old west.

Glen Campbell wasn't able to come, but sent us a DVD greeting for Ridgway
including him singing & stories about making True Grit with John Wayne.

A large crowd brought chairs and blankets and enjoyed watching
True Grit on the big screen under the Ridgway star-filled sky.

The whole event was great fun!

Sunday morning we helped RACC with a pancake breakfast, sell a few more items, then tear down & clean up.

Many people partook Sunday in the Movie Locations Tours to see the sites in and around Ridgway
where the movie True Grit was filmed.

Then we went home to catch up on some long lost sleep!
