Founded in 1888 as Bannock Stake Academy, Ricks College became known as Brigham Young University Idaho in August 2001 and is associated with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. As such, its present enrollment of just under 9,000 students is projected to increase to 11,600 by 2005.

Diplomas to the first graduates of four-year degree programs in business management, elementary education, interior design, nursing, accounting, English, history and recreation education are expected to be awarded in 2003.
The university is slated to become a two-tiered institution, offering at least 14 specialized associate degrees in addition to an anticipated 21 integrated and 12 specialized bachelor degree programs by 2005. Additionally, the university will offer eight areas of emphasis in its Secondary Education degree program starting in 2002.
The school is situated on a beautiful hillside campus of more than 250 acres with 27 major buildings and residence halls.
