Medical Information

The following chart is an example of the medications that doctors often prescribe to victims to prevent them from getting a sexually transmitted disease. The costs for the medication for victims seen at a local hospital in 1998 and 1999 are included as examples.

Hospital Medication Charge District VII Health
Ciprofloxin $ 12.39
Azithromycin $ 72.15
Hepatitis B vac skf $ 132.22
Levofloxacin $ 21.09
Flagel $5.00

Follow-up Treatment: Whether the hospital or Health Department or another medical provider tests and treats to help prevent contracting diseases, a follow-up test at the Health Department is needed 3 weeks after the assault. The second test makes certain the victim avoided getting a disease. At 3 weeks, the tests should alleviate concerns for all sexually transmitted diseases except HIV which requires testing after one year.

Legal Information

Prosecuting a Rapist: Prosecuting includes giving a statement to the law enforcement agency, meeting with the County Prosecutor, and appearing in Court as a witness. YOU DO NOT HIRE AN ATTORNEY to prosecute. These are all functions of our government and are paid for through taxes. Prosecuting may seem difficult but there are many people involved in the process that will help each victim and their family go through it. Prosecuting is the only way to get Justice!
