REAP3 is a three (full) day program for 15 – 25 students in grades 7 – 12 and their teachers. Two additional adults are welcome to participate in the program. REAP3 teaches participants the need for and merits of a variety of renewable energy sources into usable energy: solar (passive and active thermal, photovoltaics), wind, hydro, geothermal, hydrogen powered fuel cells, tidal and biomass. Participants learn, through hands-on activities, the technologies used to convert these energy sources to usable energy. They also learn of present applications of these technologies. The program includes a study of their school building to identify ways to maximize presently available renewable energy and assess the potential for installation of devices for additional use of renewables. Participants will also learn to calculate the energy savings potential of the use of renewable energy for their school. The program culminates in a written report which the REAP3 team presents to the school administration and school board.
