Physical therapy is an art as much as it is a skill. Not all physical therapists work the same way, as many people believe. Even though all our basic training is similar, we then go on to take continuing education courses, which shape our abilities and fine tune our skills. This is how therapists come to specialize in an area of treatment, and even in patient problems.
This is how we came to specialize in repetitive strain injuries (RSI). Even though we are also thoroughly competent to treat any body part, just like all therapists, the RSI population has represented 90% of the patient caseload has been for the past 8 years.
This concentration of one type of injury has given us the opportunity to "study" it. We were able to take what worked for one patient and try it on ten other patients to see the effects at different levels of the injury. The patients report back their responses and so the current RSI treatment protocol was born.
