Dear Friends of Holy Cross Retreat Center. After much prayer, many years of consideration and preparation, Holy Cross Retreat Center has reached an important decision to move ahead and begin our professionally run Capital Campaign to build a new chapel.

With the blessing of The Providence of our lady of Consolation, this critical undertaking will rely on the generosity of friends to raise a minimum of $1.5 million for the construction of this new chapel. To meet this ambitious goal it will take so much zeal, talent, faith and love to meet this
compelling challenge.

As many of you know, a new chapel for Holy Cross Retreat Center has been a long held dream of The Franciscan Friars for many years. All of you, who have been a part of the retreat center over the past fifty-two years in one way or another, realize the necessity of building a new chapel for worship.

Our present chapel has served us well over the years but is too small to accommodate the small and large groups who come each year on retreat for spiritual nurturing. As you may be aware, our conference rooms are used for Mass when accommodating groups of twenty or more.

The Province of Our Lady of Consolation, Inc., has taken an active role in making the new chapel a reality for Holy Cross Retreat Center. They have financed the expenses for the preliminary floor plans designed by Steve Newby Architects, and hired Mr. Tom Murphy to raise the funds needed to begin the construction of the chapel.

Our new chapel which will provide spiritual nurturing will be located between the large conference room where our retreatants receive nurturing of the mind and the cafeteria where physical nurturing takes place. The retreatants will receive nurturing in the mind, soul and heart. As the dicho in Spanish says �Pansa ilena, corazon content.

A full stomach, wecomes a happy heart,� we also want to create the holistic environment that will enable a person to grow in their faith. The campaign requires a great number of volunteers to visit our many friends of Holy Cross Retreat Center to ask for financial support. Please study this brochure which outlines our plans for the new chapel.

Over the next few weeks, please consider how you can participate by considering one of the suggested gift plans. Please welcome our campaign volunteers into your home or business to explain the program. For those of you who live outside the Las Cruces area, please fill-out the enclosed pledge card and return to us in the envelope provided.

Our Case For A New Chapel

The Holy Cross Retreat Center new chapel campaign offers opportunities for memorials to honor loved ones, living or deceased. Donors will find this an excellent means of expressing their love of God and his church, while at the same time participating substantially in the financing for the new chapel.

Donors who make a gift of $1,000 or more is offered the opportunity to have a brick paver engraved with their name and/or the name of someone else they choose to honor who is living or deceased. The payers will be prominently displayed on the ground in the gathering area by the front doors of the new chapel.

In addition, donors who make a gift of $5,000 or more will have a plaque prominently displayed inside the chapel in their name. How can you help make this long held dream become a reality? PLEDGE COMMITMENTS. The suggested gift plans encourage financial commitments over a three year period or 36 months.

Payment reminders will be sent in accordance with the payment schedule selected. An initial payment equal to 10% of the total gift is requested (not required) at the time of the gift plan selection. We ask you to keep in mind that it will take gifts at these levels over 36 months to reach our goal.

A deferred payment plan enables donors to consider a more significant contribution to the campaign rather than a one time gift. OTHER TYPES OF GIVING... GIFTS OF SECURITIES, STOCKS AND BONDS... Securities which have appreciated in value and have been held for more than a year, offer two advantages for charitable giving:

1. You pay no tax on the capital gain from the appreciation

2. When transferred to Holy Cross Retreat Center, the full market value qualifies as a charitable contribution deduction. Popular Deferred Gift Plans Life Insurance... Wills and Bequests... Real Estate Properties Matching Gift Programs... Please check with your place of work to see if they have a program to match your donation.

Both current employees, as well as retirees, may be eligible. We recommend that you check with your attorney, banker, or financial planner to determine which type of giving plan is most advantageous in your case.

Donations to this Foundation are tax-deductible.

Our facilities include a large conference room with a
capacity of 100 people and three smaller conference
rooms for 40 - 50 people each. The small chapel which
is fashioned after the kiva of the southwest Pueblo
Indians is furnished with southwestern style religious
artifacts and altar.

The capacity for the small chapel is about 30 people. Because of the number of large groups that use our facility, there is a need to build adequate space for worship. What tends to happen is the large conference room is used for worship to accommodate a group larger than 30. The groups that use our facility come from the Dioceses of Las Cruces, El Paso, Juarez, Gallup, and the Archdiocese of Santa Fe.

The Major groups that use Holy Cross Retreat Center are ACTS (Adoration, Community, Theology and Service). Engaged Encounter (Both English and Spanish), Lorretto High School, Knights of Columbus, Priests from Dioceses of Las Cruces, El Paso and Gallup (retreats and workshops), Deacon Studies program, confirmation retreats, Recovering Alcoholics Retreat (Spring and Fall), Tepeyac Institute, Emmanus Walk, and Spanish Marriage Encounter.

Many of these groups use the facility many times in the
year and have up to 100 people or more in their groups.
The estimated cost to build the new chapel is $1.5 mi
llion. The facility will include:

� Chapel with seating capacity of 250
� New bathrooms for the large conference room and chapel
� Gift Shop
� Reconciliation Rooms
� Storage
� Vestment Sacristy and working Sacristy
� Covered walkways to large conference room and cafeteria
� Columbarium

Our suggested gift plans encourage financial commitments over a three-year period. A five-year pledge is available if necessary, especially for gifts of $100,000 or more.
