Digital photography offers physicians and head and neck specialists new tools to photograph patients and document their conditions. Digital photography offers a new standard in versatility, flexibility and convenience. It also offers its users a dramatic new advantage. CONTROL. Complete control.
Traditional X-rays can be scanned into the computer using a flatbed scanner and placed in the same file as the digital photographs. These files can then be sent by modem to outside specialists when necessary. This means less than 30 minutes after photographing a patient, a specialist in another state could have the composited images on his desktop!
Using special image processing software, physicians and dentists can show patients after-surgery results before actual surgery begins.
Electronic dental imaging will greatly affect the practice of clinical dentistry in the next decade. The patient will probably carry a copy of his or her "electronic" record on a computer CD. The possibilities are endless!
