The Bible's Most Potent Message About Marriage
The most potent message about success in marriage is found in Ephesians, chapter 5.
This record defines God's way to add quality to individuals so individuals can add quality to marriage.
Could there be happy marriage without happy individuals? Happy individuals make happy marriage. This Bible record shows how to be happy as individuals and also in marriage.
It starts with a perfect way to add quality to life that comes from a perfect standard within us. It comes from our ability to see good in life, and others, and be thankful.
What we find to be thankful for is the very positive quality that determines our quality of life.
Ephesians 5:20 offers Biblical focus to raise quality of life.
"Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ."
The attitude of gratitude is our best state of mind. Thankfulness is the key to quality of life!
The rest of chapter five completes this potent message about marriage. It describes a necessary order for families that cannot exist unless the roles of husband and wife are practiced. It deals with the order of leadership.
Only when leadership roles in family are intact, can there be real leadership. And when there are leaders, there can also be followers. This order is most fundamental to harmony in relationships in marriage and family. This is how people work together.
Children untrained in the skills of leading and following have a significant disadvantage in the scheme of life because they do not know how to do either. They get these lessons by seeing them practiced in family.
God's order for leadership happens when both husband and wife follow God's order for family. This order comes from a spiritual view of a perfect standard. That standard is Jesus Christ and his love detailed in the Bible. This standard can thrive in both husband and wife in marriage.
Ephesians 5:21-25 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear (respect) of God. Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.
For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.
Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;
Note that the Bible calls on men to act their part as leaders to lead their wives and families with this quality of leadership. The power of this leadership comes from God's standard of love, then a man can lead.
It also requires women to marry men who have these qualities. Why should a woman marry a man she can't respect and follow?
Christ's love in marriage happens when the man loves the wife as Christ loved the church. This establishes a most compelling pattern of love for the whole family. This love view sets the order for perfect harmony in marriage (and family). It starts with perfect love from God and His son. Then it adds strength to the man and woman who have focus on this love. It is made complete in the family with an example for children to follow.
All people can benefit from this universal example of love and how to be in harmony in love.
Ephesians 3:18 reads, "the love of Christ passeth knowledge". His love enables us to understand the truth in Ephesians. As right knowledge of his love is contemplated, the words continue to have fuller and fuller meaning. These ways give focus on Christ in the spouse in marriage. This is a spiritual love that comes from spiritual focus. It includes many things to be thankful for including the Bible's curriculum for life to raise quality of life for all of us as individuals and for all of us in marriage.
This is the Bible's most potent message about marriage! It shows us how to see Christ in each other in marriage so both in marriage can enjoy Christ’s spiritual love for each other!
