CONOVER ó Burke County individuals or businesses who purchase tickets for this yearís 12th annual Greater Hickory Kia Classic (GHKC) golf tournament can ensure 100 percent of the money they spend stays in the county through a special initiative of the Menís Club of Morganton.

The Champions Tour tournament is slated for Oct. 17-19 at Rock Barn Golf & Spa, and a wide variety of activities will be held Oct. 13-16 at Rock Barn as well leading up the event.

Through the Together Anythingís Possible (TAP) program, the GHKC donates 100 percent of its ticket revenue to charitable organizations throughout the Unifour. The event has now raised $1.2 million for charity.

When purchasing tickets online, those interested can choose The Menís Club of Morganton as the recipient of the funds. The same option is available for tickets purchased at the gate.

For tickets which are sold but not designated for a certain organization, the GHKC assigns the funds based on how much of the designated funds are allotted to the various groups.

Anyone who allots their purchase for the Menís Club will be part of supplying needy children with bikes through the groupís Bikes 4 Kids program. It takes the Menís Club $50 to furnish a bike to Christmas Cheer, a group that has served Burke County for nearly 100 years.

Christmas Cheer then chooses needy recipients for the bikes. Last year, the Menís Club supplied Christmas Cheer with 340 bikes.

ďThis is something we really get excited about, helping those in need and particularly kids,Ē said Butch McSwain of the Menís Club, who worked for years with the Morganton Recreation Department and now volunteers quite a bit of his time to the GHKC each fall.

ďWe want to donate to as many needy children as possible and hope folks get excited about what is a great golf tournament and a great way to support charity as well.Ē

Tickets are $20 per person per day or $60 for weekly tickets. A 10-pack of daily tickets is $150, and a 10-pack of weekly tickets is $400. Specially priced packages are also available for 20, 30, 60 and 100 daily tickets.
