Types of theatre systems

To experience the full enjoyment of your home theater system, you'll want to know a little about speakers.
Understand that with a surround sound system; unless you have the six speakers required you will not get the full benefit.
If you have a quality surround sound system you not only fill the room with sound, but you'll "feel" the action as well.
Typically the six speakers are placed this way:
One speaker on each side of your TV, a center speaker on top of the TV, the subwoofer to your right, and two more speakers placed to the left and right behind you.

You can even calibrate this setup by "ear" or you can use a sound level meter.
Tip: In reference to Home Theatre Speakers, size does not always mean better, but quality name brands do matter.
The Center-Front Speaker is where the dialog comes from. The center-front speaker should sit on top of or on a shelf very near the TV.
The Rear (or Surround) Speakers should be placed to the rear or side of your theater seating or "sofa," whatever the case may be. These speakers allow you to "feel" the action.
The Subwoofer produces the low-frequency sounds, such as the spaceship flying across the screen as in "Red Planet" starring Val Kilmer. The subwoofer needs a lot of amplifier power to really "boom." A good amp will deliver about 100 watts to each of the left and right channels.
The Left and Right Front Speakers are also an important part of the package. If you purchase a surround sound amplifier and want to use your home stereo speakers make sure they can handle the wattage of the amp.

Consists of one front center speaker, one set of left and right front speaker, one set of left and right rear surround sound speakers, and one subwoofer.
6.1 theatre speaker system
Consists of one front center speaker, one set of left and right front speaker, one center rear speaker, one set of left and right rear surround sound speakers, and one subwoofer.
7.1 theatre speaker system
consists of one front center speaker, one set of left and right front speakers, one set of left and right side surround speakers, and one set of left and right rear surround sound speakers, and one subwoofer.
