The Burke County Sports Hall of Fame, sponsored by the Men’s Club of Morganton, Morganton/Burke Sports Commission and the City of Morganton Parks and Recreation Department, was established to recognize and perpetuate the noteworthy sports traditions of Burke County by honoring and memorializing individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to sports traditions in Burke County.

The Burke County Sports Hall of Fame program was developed and presented by Gary W. Leonhardt in 1993.

To be eligible for the Hall of Fame, the nominee must be someone who has brought state or national attention to Burke County through their contributions to sports.

The induction includes a reception and banquet honoring the new inductee at the Morganton Community House.

The Hall of Fame Display Case is located in the lobby of the Collett Street Recreation Center with a photo engraved plaque honoring inductees along with pictures and a list of honors and awards received.
