Served as Athletic Director of Burke County Schools providing leadership in design and fund raising for athletic facilities; Instrumental in advancing Burke County high school athletics to the AAAA level of competition; Served on the Board of Directors of the North Carolina High School Athletic Association (1971-1975); Served as secretary of the North Carolina High School Athletic Directors Association in 1976; Designed North Carolina's first physical education demonstration school at Valdese Elementary in 1973.
