- 1948: Graduated Johnson C. Smith University
- 1949: Accepted teaching and coaching position at Olive Hill High School
- 1965: Rev. McIntosh played an important part in the integration of schools
in Burke County, and continued teaching and coaching at
Morganton High School.
- 1973: Freedom High School opened and Rev. McIntosh moved there to
serve as Assistant Principal.
- 1978: Rev. McIntosh became Assistant Superintendent of Federal Programs,
and worked in that position until his retirement in 1990.
- 2015: The press box at Freedom High School was dedicated to Coach Mac.
Coach Mac served as the voice of Freedom Football for over 25 years as Announcer and Broadcast Analyst, always welcoming fans to the banks of the Majestic Catawba River.
His final public speaking appearance in a sports capacity came October 2018 during the ceremony naming the FHS Press Box in his honor:
When I drive by here every morning, I feel so good to know I had a part in the birth of Freedom High School, McIntosh said that night. Us preachers don't get many thank yous, so this was unexpected. Thank you and God bless you. Be good to yourself and your school.
Rev. Willie Flemon McIntosh, Jr. viewed football (and sports) as so much more than a game. He felt that at its best it was a societal remedy, a learning laboratory for young men, a cultural touchstone, and a community binder and builder. His broadcast work was simply an extension of his work as a coach which was an extension of his love of the game as an athlete and a scholar. And nothing in sports was more precious to him than his memories of his days playing the game at Johnson C. Smith University, coaching and building at Olive Hill High, bringing a world of change together at Morganton High, and establishing his beloved Freedom High School.
