The MAAFA
MAAFA (mah-ah-fah) is a Kiswahili word used to describe tremendous calamity, catastrophe, tragedy or disaster. Dr. Marimba Ani introduced it into contemporary African-American scholarship as a preferred reference to the period in world history, identified as the Middle Passage or Trans-Atlantic Slave Trade. Every year the HHCDC commemorates the MAAFA.
The MAAFA, the African Holocaust, must become vivid in our collective memories as we commemorate this great catastrophe. The MAAFA gives us all the opportunity to remember the past in order to recapture self and heal.

Many of the things African Americans suffered directly or indirectly is related to 350 years of what was known as the "plantation process". Yet through it all God became our refuge and our strength, a present help in the time of trouble. We now remember and embrace the suffering of our ancestors to ensure that slavery never occurs again with any people.
Experience The MAAFA!!
Close your eyes and imagine you are sound asleep in your room. Suddenly a bunch of men burst into your room and kidnap you. You are placed in chains and sent on a long journey to America as a lifetime servant for a society that regards you as sub-human, mere chattel.

This image is much like the experience of the children of the African Diaspora.
