The intent of this is so new members have a chance to get a decent spot instead of stands being left for years.

Something needs to be done with stands not used in years. I think a clean sweep needs to be completed. No one owns any land or hunting spot. Not sure what the correct way to fix the issue

I agree there are far too many stands, many are abandoned, taking up space and preventing us from hunting those areas. A better system for checks and balances of hunters permanent stands would be a great idea. I don’t think removal of every stand each season is the right answer though. Anyone who takes the time to create a food plot, spends the money, etc shouldn’t have to tear down and start fresh in my opinion.

I would vote against removing all stands every year, although i do support a system to identify every stand and allow removal of stands that aren’t within compliance.

I agree. As a 2nd year member I'm in the group that even with countless hours of scouting and cell cam usage it's incredibly difficult to find spots that are legal, have sign and aren't w/in 100m of another stand. Guys end up boguarding a particular area or even an entire block by putting a few stands in whether they hunt them or not. And there's no way to know if they are being used or perhaps even permission. It suppresses new members from wanting to join or stay in when we aren't able to get a productive spot. Especially if we lose acreage again like this year. Removing stands and having to put them up at the beginning of the new season would allow an opportunity for others to hunt new spots.

I also don't agree with taking stands down every year if they're being used (and I don't currently have a stand up!), but think we could figure out a way to identify and remove old/unused stands.

What about a system to tag your stand each year so that the group knows it's still being used (Schreurs, stand 1, 2024)? I also think this way it would also be nice to see contact info on the stand to be able to reach out for permission to hunt that stand/area when the owner isn't hunting. This would help new members, and still encourage members to build up their hunting areas/food plots. And stand owners can surely not give out permission if they choose not to.

I am not offering my opinion with this, but it is in the Rules, Section 8, that if you find a stand that is UNUSED (not labeled), you can get with a board member, remove it and secure it at the clubhouse. I will also add that the off season would be a great time to do this and it's easily counted as a "work-day", if approved by the President.

Like the old days in the club. Mark your permanent stands on the big map. Problem solved.

This isn’t a good solution, I agree we need to remove abandoned stands as per the current rules.

Some of the issues I see withreporting all abandoned looking stands is nobody wants to be the bad guy. I personally don’t want to guess if a stands abandoned or not, then report the location, maybe find out who it is, maybe not. When I’m scouting/hunting I have zero interest in removing someone’s old stand or taking the limited time I have to scout and use it for reporting and removing stands.

What I outlined in another topic about everyone getting 3 custom branded stickers or tags would solve this issue in a couple ways.

-if I come across a stand in an area I would want to hunt, and that stands doesn’t have the appropriate markings, I no longer have to find a new spot. I can set my saddle, lock on, climber, permanent stand etc on a tree right beside it and hunt. Without fear of encroaching on someone’s spot. I could also hunt directly from that stand if it’s abandoned. Everyone wins. If it has contact info on it, I can call them to remind them their stand is abandoned if they want to come get it, or leave it there and it’s now a stand anyone can use. If I choose to set up a permanent stand and mark it appropriately with one of my provided tags, then that spot becomes mine within the 100m rule per current guidelines.

- using this system neither create a ton of free club stands, allow for members to select new permanent Stand spots, and get lots of old abandoned stands out if the woods if anyone feels inclined to remove it. I don’t see any downside to it.

-it will also get everyone out in the woods at least once per year to attach the new seasons branded sticker to their stands. Any day in the woods is better than not 🤙

I do NOT support removing all stands every year, but very much support the requirement of having the hunter’ name, contact info, and year of hunting season on the stand. This would eliminate the doubt of whether a stand is in use by a current member or not

If we removed our stands every year I don't think we could legally use feeders maintaining them year around an at least 6 months prior. Having the 3 tags per member to mark their stand sounds the best to me. If a member doesn't mark their stand with the annual tag, that stand gets removed and reported to the BOD.

Go with color coded tags each year. If a stand does not have a tag on it by August 1st the stand gets removed. Meaning each member is issued 3 tags per year for stands with yearly membership

Removing stands every year is not the answer. All that is wanting to do this is some one found a nice looking place to hunt but someone is already there. There are plenty of places to hunt on our property. Find yourself a place to hunt without moving someone out of their place to hunt.

I do NOT support removing stands every year. This will cause a cluster mess and unnecessary drama that we do not need. So much work is put into not only setting up a stand but also maintaining the area. However, if a stand is not properly marked and obviously hasn't been used for quite some time, we can remove it. Other than that, we need to leave them alone.
Mason       3-12-2024 4:28 PM
I don't think a full removal of all stands each year is best either but neither is removing someone else's stand, whether you believe it abandoned or not. Inevitably something will happen to a stand , they're heavy and awkward after all, and tempers will flare. I agree with Nate's idea of unmarked stands become club use until tagged or removed by the owner. If it's not in compliance then we can ignore the 100m rule or even sit that stand if safe. That way the owner is out a stand, no risk of damage or something walking away but also doesn't keep others out of the area for no reason.
