Class of 1947. Virginia Harding. She married Gordon Ursenbach on November 22, 1947, divorced. She married Ronald Meadows on September 21, 1974, and he died. She married on Dewey Hess July 7, 1979, and he also passed. She was a dance teacher, and she operated several rental properties. @2008 ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Virginia Meadows Hess, 87, returned to her Heavenly Father Sunday, February 21, 2016 at Caring Hearts in Pocatello. She was born July 3, 1928 to Jess Harding and Ahta Harding in Provo, Utah. She was raised and educated in Provo where she had many friends. She and her eleven girlfriends were known as "the Dizzy Dozen" and their special friendship continued throughout their lives. She graduated from Brigham Young University High School in the Class of 1947. After graduating, she married Gordon Ursenbach on November 22, 1947. They had two children. They were later divorced. She married Ronald Meadows on September 21, 1974 and moved to American Falls. Ron passed away May 11, 1978. She married Dewey Hess on July 7, 1979 and moved back to Pocatello. Dewey passed on April 5, 1997. Virginia loved to dance and she opened The Ursenbach Dance Studio in Provo 1962. As the family moved to Salt Lake City and then Pocatello, Idaho, she continued the dance studio, enriching the lives of her many students. She ventured into the apartment business when she married Dewey Hess and continued to oversee the apartments they owned after his death. As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served in many callings. She is survived by her daughter, Sue Ann (Jerry) Hodge; and her son, Mark (Carolyn) Ursenbach both of Pocatello, Idaho; 6 Grandchildren and 17 Great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents; her sister; and two husbands. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to the loving staff of Caring Hearts Assisted Living where Virginia spent her remaining years. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garth Merrill Harris, husband and best friend of Betty Harris, his wife of sixty years, on Sunday, February 3, 2013 at the age of 85 years. Family and friends were invited to meet with the family at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 8, 2013 and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He is also survived by twenty eight grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren whom he loved and adored. Garth will be fondly remembered by two brothers Bernarr (Inez) Harris of Taber and Gary (Evelyn) Harris of Lake Havasu, Arizona; a sister NaVee (Curt) Wynder of Provo, Utah; Betty's brothers and their spouses Gordon Peterson, Ron (Nurae) Peterson, Rulon (Dee) Peterson and Larry (Reta) Peterson and by numerous nieces and nephews. Family meant everything to Garth and he loved nothing more than to have the family be together. He was predeceased by a son Derrick Harris; three grandsons Jason Harris, Devin Harris and Eric Nordquist; son-in-law Allan Bodnar; his parents Ivan & Maude Harris; Betty's parents Elgin and Dorene Peterson; step father Ward Webb; sister Joyce Palmer; sister-in-law Peg Peterson. Garth was born on June 9, 1927 and lived most of his life in Taber. He worked along-side his father from a very young age and eventually took over the family farm. Garth loved to see things grow and watch the land produce bounteous crops. In 1947 he graduated from Brigham Young High School in Provo, Utah. In 1952, Garth married the love of his life, Betty Peterson, and they were blessed with nine children. Garth had a great sense of humor, loved to play practical jokes on anyone and everyone and was usually in the middle of any social gathering. He also had a great love of flying and earned his pilot's license at an early age. Garth was always active in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, serving as a Missionary in France, Home Teacher, Bishop, Seventy, High Councilor, a councilor in two Stake Presidencies, a Temple worker and Sealer and a councilor in the Bern Switzerland Temple Presidency. He was also an active member of the community where he served for several years as a Director and Chairman of the Alberta Vegetable Growers Marketing Board, Director of the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers Association (Taber local), a councilor in the Municipal District of Taber and was also active in the Taber Chamber of Commerce and the Taber Flying club. If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Garth's name may be made directly to the charity of one's personal choosing. Class of 1947. Owen E. Heninger. Married Audrey Olson, BYH Class of 1947. ~ ~ ~ ~ His parents: Dr. Owen Pratt Heninger and Rachel Cannon Heninger. Owen and Rachel Heninger had four children: Mary Lu Heninger [BYH Class of 1945] Mitchell, [School Teacher] of Whittier, California; Dr. Owen E. Heninger [BYH Class of 1947] [Psychiatrist] (Audrey) of Whittier, California; Dr. George R. Heninger [BYH Class of 1953] [Psychiatrist] (Julie) of Hamden, Connecticut; and John Cannon Heninger [BYH Class of 1956~H] [Sociology] of Provo, Utah. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Owen Earl Heninger, M.D., R.P.T., (age 85) died peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2015 after several months of failing health. Owen is mourned by his wife of 62 years Audrey Olson Heninger; son Gregory Owen Heninger, daughter Jody Heninger Kozak (Greg,) brother George Robert Heninger (Julie,) grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Owen grew up in Provo, Utah, living with three siblings (Mary, George, and John) in a State house, because their father, Owen Pratt Heninger, was Superintendent of the Utah State Mental Hospital. His mother, Rachel Cannon Heninger, was a revered community volunteer and pianist. The Heninger children were encouraged to serve their fellow citizens, to explore their world, and to excel in their education. Owen grew into a bright, likeable, enthusiastic adventurer. At Brigham Young High School, Owen met his future-wife, Audrey. Owen and Audrey both graduated in the BYH Class of 1947. After high school, Owen served in the National Guard and U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged, and returned to Provo to marry Audrey in 1952. Owen graduated from Brigham Young University, and the New York Flower and Fifth Avenue Medical College. Owen served his internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, California. In 1964, Owen achieved his Board Certification in Psychiatry, and established his private practice in Whittier, California. Owen avidly supported education about mental health. He served as chairman of the committee to organize the psychiatric unit at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. He also served as assistant clinical professor at the USC School of Medicine, teaching family practice residents. Owen continued his education and became a Registered Poetry Therapist. From 1975-1997, Owen published widely in the field of poetry therapy; and was closely associated with Dr. Arthur Lerner in developing the field. Owen served on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Poetry Therapy. He was former President of the American Psychiatric Arts Association, former director of courses in poetry therapy at annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association. After Owen closed his private practice in 1995, he worked full-time for four more years in the psychiatric field at the Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, and at the Long Beach Mental Health Services. And from 1999-2008 he was a part-time psychiatric consultant at the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Owen was an active volunteer in Lion's Club and Rotary Club. He was a dedicated supporter of Boy Scout Troop 936, and accompanied the troop on hikes for ten years. In 1990, Owen was enthused by artists Christo and Jeanne Claude's art installations. Owen befriended the pair, and worked as a monitor on The Umbrella Project over Tejon Pass in 1991. In retirement, Owen stayed busy writing memoirs and short stories with two writing groups. Class of 1947. Nelda Holm. She married Richard N. Adams on May 4, 1950 in Idaho Falls, Idaho. His parents were Willard Adams and Arberella Irene Mikesell Adams. Nelda Holm Adams, 88, of Idaho Falls, Idaho, passed away September 7, 2017, surrounded by family. She was under the care of her loving family and Aspen Home Health & Hospice. Nelda was born July 13, 1929, in Idaho Falls, Idaho, to Carl Paul Theophilus Holm and Zula Wilcox Holm. She grew up and attended schools in Roberts, Idaho Falls and Provo, graduating from BYU High School in 1947. She also attended Ricks College. On May 4, 1950, she married Richard Norman Adams in the Idaho Falls LDS Temple. They were blessed with seven children, Paul, Greg, Eric, Lindy, Kelly, Brett and Jody. Nelda and Richard made their home in Idaho Falls, where Nelda was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. Nelda was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She served in numerous callings and served a family history mission in Salt Lake City. She loved serving others and was a pink lady at the LDS Hospital. She enjoyed singing and was a member of the Sweet Adelines and Sounds Choir. She was a member of Republican Women and received many honorary awards for her service. She was also involved in the Republican Precinct Committee. Her love for her country was reflected by her activity in political events. Nelda is survived by her loving husband of 67 years, Richard Adams of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Paul (Renee) Adams of Meridian, Idaho; son, Greg (Alisha) Adams of Visalia, California; son, Eric (Cheri) Adams, currently serving as a mission president in El Salvador; daughter, Lindy (Tom) Romrell of Idaho Falls, Idaho; son, Kelly (Angie) Adams of Sandy, Utah; son, Brett (Karen) Adams of Bend, Oregon; daughter, Jody (Kevin) Stanger of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Veneta Gustaveson of Idaho Falls, Idaho; sister, Ronda Lou (Dick) Groberg of Idaho Falls, Idaho; 28 grandchildren and 58 great-grandchildren. Class of 1947. Beryl Jensen. She married Richard (Dick) Smiley. ~ ~ ~ ~ Her parents: Carl Oliver Jensen (dentist) and LaVona Rasmussen Jensen (musician), married in 1914. Carl and LaVona Jensen have five children, including three daughters: Bonnie Jensen (Raldo) Shiner; Iola Jensen (Gordon) Anderson; Beryl Jensen [BYH Class of 1947] (Richard) Smiley; and two sons, Alva "Al" Jensen, Sr. (Peggy); and Dr. Darrell C. Class of 1947. J. Kent Johnson, age 61, died May 17, 1990 in Provo, following a lingering illness. Born February 18, 1928 in Provo, to Alma L. and Irene Henrichsen Johnson. Married Shirleyne Chamberlain, April 1975, in Provo; later divorced. He was a breeder of quarter horses and mink rancher. Active in real estate profession. Survived by one sister, Mrs. Robert (Kay) VanDyke, Springville; nephew, Robert J. Kent VanDyke, Murray; niece, Kristin Lee VanDyke, Springville; great-nephew, Casey Johnson VanDyke, Murray. Class of 1947. Hugh K. Jolley, Jr. He was born May 30, 1928. His parents are Hugh Kelly Jolley, Sr., and Edith Bills Jolley, married in 1926 in Salt Lake City, Utah. Hugh Jr. married Diane. Hugh died at Westlake Village, Thousand Oaks, California on May 26, 2011 due to Parkinsons disease. Harold Jolley, BYH Class of 1951, is Hugh's brother.

Class of 1947. Ronald Dee "R. Dee" Law. Married Colleen Benson, BYH Class of 1947. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Ronald Dee Law passed away peacefully at home in Iron County, Utah, with family around him, on Saturday the 17th of January 2015. He was 85 years old. Ronald, or "R. Dee" as he was known to his family, was born July 14, 1929 in Brigham City, Utah at the old Cooley Clinic on the corner of Main Street & 3rd South. He was the second child and only son of Reuben Deem Law and Leda Call Law. Before R. Dee started the second grade the family moved to Provo, Utah where R. Dee spent the majority of his childhood. During this year he met Colleen Benson who would later become his wife. He attended Brigham Young University Elementary Training School, Brigham Young Jr. High and Brigham Young High School, graduating in the BYH Class of 1947. R. Dee then graduated from Brigham Young University receiving a degree in Chemistry. He interrupted his studies to serve a mission for the LDS Church in the French mission. At that time, this mission included all of French-speaking Europe. On the 27th of December 1951, he married his sweetheart, Colleen [also BYH Class of 1947], in the St. George LDS Temple. He often said that marrying Colleen was the best thing he had ever done. After both R. Dee and Colleen finished college they moved to southern California so that he could pursue further education. In 1958 the family moved back to Utah where R. Dee took a job as a chemist with Thiokol. He continued to work for Thiokol until his retirement. In 1965 the family moved to Brigham City, Utah into the LDS 12th Ward. R. Dee held many callings while living there including being called to serve as Bishop in 1977. He also joined the Box Elder Symphonic Choir. He had a beautiful tenor voice and often sang solos. R. Dee and Colleen spent twenty years working in the LDS Church extraction program and, after retirement they served two missions to the Paris France Mission. Colleen passed away in 2006, and in 2012 R. Dee moved to Iron County, Utah to live with his daughter and son-in-law Don and Lauralee Lester. R. Dee was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Colleen, a sister Leda Marie Law Muhlestein, and a brother-in-law Grant Ash. He is survived by his sisters Zola Rae Law Ash, Nena Flo Law, Rose Lynette Law Rigby (Lavar Rigby) and brother-in-law Lewis Muhlestein. Also three daughters, Lauralee Law Lester (Don Lester), Linda Law Sharp (Ron Sharp), Sharon Law Rex (Ron Rex), ten grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren. Ronald Dee Law was a great man who spent his life focused on his family and the gospel of Jesus Christ. He worked faithfully in whatever church calling he was given. He was a faithful Home Teacher to many families over the years. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. Funeral services will be at the Brigham City 12th Ward 139 East 300 North, Brigham City, Utah at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 24th, 2015. Class of 1947. John Knight Mangum. Born February 11, 1930, Provo, Utah. Died June 6, 1971, near Duarte, Los Angeles Co., California. Interment, Sandy, Utah. His parents were Willis Lester Mangum and Jessie Pearl Knight Mangum, and they had three sons and three daughters. One sister, Dixie 'K' Mangum Snow, graduated from BYH in 1930, and another, Jessie 'K' Mangum, graduated from BYH in 1933. A brother, William Lester Mangum, graduated from BYH in 1936 (?).

Class of 1947. Charmaine Matson Jeppson. Married John Jeppson. [Charmaine, not Charmayne] ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: John Jeppson March 4, 1926 - June 2, 2012. John Wilbur Jeppson was born in a log cabin with a dirt floor in Cardston, Canada on March 4, 1926 to Rulon Wilbur and Rubie (Parrish) Jeppson. He graduated from Granite High in Holladay where he worked on their family dairy farm. Dad joined the US Navy during World War II, then attended BYU before serving an LDS mission to Kalaupapa Molokai, Hawaii, where he gained a great love for the people and the islands. He graduated with a business degree from BYU after his mission and became a salesman for NCR and several other companies before working for the Clearfield Job Corps. Dad was a Boy Scout leader in the Roy 6th Ward where he also served as Bishop. He sang with the Men of Song choir for many years; he volunteered at the Ogden and Bountiful Temples for over 20 years. He was a bird watcher and loved nature but his highest priorities were his wife, family and love for his Savior, Jesus Christ. Dad married his BYU sweetheart Charmaine Iva Matson [BYH Class of 1947] in the Salt Lake Temple. After raising their seven children, they moved to Farmington to be near his widowed mother and siblings. Surviving loved ones: wife, children, Robin (Jim) Pettett, Susan (Bob) Wood, Cindy, Carol (Scott) Balaich, Jacob (Shauna), Chris, and Elizabeth (Dee) Huber; 21 grandchildren and 17 great-grand-children; siblings Lynne (Jerry) Godfrey, Dave (June) and Barbara (Nolan) Robison; sister-in-law Helen (deceased brother Bruce). Class of 1947. Don Clayton McConkie is a member of the Brigham Young High School Class of 1947. He is known by his middle name "Clayton" or "Clay" because his father, Don L. McConkie, was a teacher and principal at the school. Clay's parents, Don Leo McConkie and Grace Pickup McConkie, lived in Provo. Clay received a BA from Brigham Young University, and an MS and PhD from the University of Utah. Clay married Julie Grace McDonald Wilson. Clay is a teacher, scholar and author by occupation, having taught in the Salt Lake City Schools for thirty years. Dr. McConkie and his wife Julie Grace have served together on four LDS missions. They are the parents of four children. Clayton's sister was Colleen McConkie, who married David Wayne Beesley. ~ ~ ~ ~ HIS OBITUARY: Surrounded by family and loved ones, Don Clayton McConkie, 87, passed away on February 17, 2017. Clay was born in Maeser, Utah, to Don Leo McConkie and Grace Pickup McConkie on May 27, 1929. In his early years, he developed a love of the desert, camping, and hiking — a love that would stay with him his whole life. In 1942 he moved to Provo with his parents and younger sister, Colleen, and graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1947. He attended BYU where he was a reporter for the BYU Daily Universe. After serving in the Northeastern States Mission, Clay met, fell in love with, and married Julie Grace Wilson on December 18, 1953, in the Salt Lake Temple. Soon after, he was drafted into the US Army, serving for two years with the 97th Field Artillery Battalion in Germany, which gave him and Julie Grace the opportunity to travel across Europe. He returned to complete his bachelor’s degree at BYU, and master’s and doctorate degrees in education at the University of Utah. Clay taught for 31 years at Jackson Junior High and Clayton Middle School, where he taught English, Yearbook, and Journalism. Clay and Julie Grace were blessed with four children (two daughters and two sons). He valued time spent with his family, and chose not to pick up a summer job so he could spend more time with them, taking them across the country to national parks, Disneyland, Church historical sites and Washington DC. Clay was known most as a teacher, scholar, author of eleven books, poet, skillful genealogist, and fly fisherman. Clay was a devoted member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He and his wife, Julie Grace, served together on four LDS missions to the Manitoba Winnipeg Mission, Swiss Temple twice, and Washington DC Temple. His faith and testimony of Jesus Christ and His gospel were unwavering. He will be remembered for his quiet and gentle manner. Clayton is preceded in death by his parents, and will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Julie Grace; children, Burke (Elaine) McConkie, Caryl McConkie, Kristina Hanks and John (Liz) McConkie; sister, Colleen Beesley; twelve grandchildren and spouses; and four great-grandchildren. Erickson, Jr. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: E. KATHERINE MILLER ERICKSON. E. Katherine Erickson, 93, formerly of Idaho Falls, passed away September 18, 2022, at Caring Hearts Assisted Living in Pocatello, ID. Katherine was born February 9, 1929, in Provo, Utah, to William L. Miller and Elsie Katherine Sorensen Miller. She grew up and attended schools in Provo, Utah, graduating from BYU High School in the Class of 1947. She later graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Clothing and Textiles from Brigham Young University, a Master's Degree in Retailing from New York University, and a teaching certificate in Home Economics Education from the University of Utah. On May 24, 1957, she married Lawrence E. Erickson in the Salt Lake Temple. Katherine and Larry moved for several years due to his occupation, and eventually made their home in Idaho Falls, where Katherine raised her family and later worked in retail sales for over 30 years. Her influence as a mother guided her children to pursue education and lead happy families in creating a large and faithful posterity. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and taught the gospel for many years. She served as Relief Society and Primary Counselor, Visiting Teacher, Librarian, and loved serving at the Idaho Falls Humanitarian Center for three years. She enjoyed doing genealogy, taking care of her home and family, and music. She also was a skilled seamstress and taught sewing to her family and in Continuing Ed. Katherine is survived by her daughter, Anne (Robert) Gray of Wasilla, Alaska; daughter, Camille (Thomas) Clark of Pocatello, Idaho; daughter, Elizabeth (Emilio) Escalona of Pocatello, Idaho; son, David (Jeanine) Erickson of Phoenix, Arizona; brother, William L. Miller, Jr. of Kalamazoo, Michigan; sister-in-law, Carole Cannon of Salt Lake City, Utah; 19 grandchildren and 33 great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her great-granddaughter, Audrey Clark. Services will be held at 12 noon on Friday, September 23, 2022, at the Home Ranch Ward, 2051 S. Colleen Mower Knudsen, 68, Provo, died Jan. 16, 1999, arrangements by Berg Mortuary, Provo, Utah. [Deseret News, January 18, 1999.] ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Colleen Mower Knudsen passed away suddenly, following a brief illness, Saturday Jan. 16, 1999, at the age of 68. Mrs. Knudsen was born in Fairview. She lived most of her life in Provo. She attended Brigham Young High School and graduated in the Class of 1947. She then attended BYU where she obtained a bachelor's degree and a teaching certificate. She married Lynn Reed Knudsen, of Provo, in 1952. Lynn and Colleen had three children: Brent (Kathryn) Ronald Knudsen of Los Gatos, California; Kim (Scott) Knudsen Hunter of Salt Lake City; Kristin Knudsen, who preceded her mother in death in 1996. Mrs. Knudsen was also the proud grandmother of Madison Hunter, Taylor Hunter, Andie Knudsen, Webb Knudsen, and Paige Knudsen. Mrs. Knudsen was preceded in death by her parents, Harold J. Mower in 1974; Irene Mower on Aug. 13, 1998. Mrs. Knudsen's only sister, Gloria Mower Ritchie, BYH Class of 1950, also preceded Mrs. Knudsen in death in 1997. Mrs. Knudsen enjoyed her family and friends. She was a member of the Riverside Country Club Women's Golf Team with numerous golf awards, was a member of numerous bridge clubs, literary clubs, Dekatos and Camitos, Beta Sorosis, and other social groups. She served as president of many of these organizations. She was a member of the Riverside Fifth Ward. She loved and was loved by her friends and her family, especially her loving husband Lynn of 46 years. She will be missed by all, though we're comforted to know she joins her daughter Kristin, sister Gloria, and her mother and father in her new estate. Class of 1947. Dorothy Rae Nelson, known as "Rae." ~ ~ ~ ~ HER OBITUARY: Beloved mother, Dorothy Rae "Rae" Nelson Mildenhall died, Brigham City, Tuesday, October 2, 2012. Rae had lived in Perry, Utah from May 2006 until July 2012 with her late husband Glen. Before moving to Perry, Rae and Glen lived in Provo for many years. Dorothy Rae Nelson was born on May 25, 1929 in St. Louis, Missouri to Joseph Call Nelson and Dorothy Decker. Rae grew up in Provo and Salt Lake City, graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1947, and attended Brigham Young University. Rae married Glen T. Mildenhall on June 2, 1950 in the Salt Lake Temple. Rae and Glen lived in Salt Lake City for two years, then moved to Provo where they raised six sons and a daughter. Rae enjoyed serving in numerous church callings, was also was an active leader in PTA, on the school, city and state level and an active member of the Daughters of the Utah Pioneers. Rae and Glen served as LDS missionaries in the Little Rock Arkansas Mission. Surviving are her sister, Krista Froelich, two brothers, Joseph and Stevens Nelson, six children, Tom (Carolyn)[BYH Class of 1969~H), Joe (Mary), Kurt (Linda), Scott (JoAnn), Guy (Karen), Sarah Olsen (Dean), daughter-in-law Sheryl Mills 30 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren. Class of 1947. Phyllis E. Nixon. Senior Class Social Chair in 1946-1947. ~ ~ ~ ~ Phyllis E. Nixon was born on September 17, 1929. She married Aaron Bruce Mendenhall (1925-2010). Their combined gravestone is in the Evergreen Cemetery in Springville, Utah. Aaron died in 2010, but Phyllis is still living. @2013

Audrey arried Owen Heninger, also BYH Class of 1947. ~ ~ ~ ~ HER HUSBAND'S OBITUARY: Owen Earl Heninger, M.D., R.P.T., (age 85) died peacefully in his sleep on March 4, 2015 after several months of failing health. Owen is mourned by his wife of 62 years Audrey Olson Heninger; son Gregory Owen Heninger, daughter Jody Heninger Kozak (Greg,) brother George Robert Heninger (Julie,) grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Owen grew up in Provo, Utah, living with three siblings (Mary, George, and John) in a State house, because their father, Owen Pratt Heninger, was Superintendent of the Utah State Mental Hospital. His mother, Rachel Cannon Heninger, was a revered community volunteer and pianist. The Heninger children were encouraged to serve their fellow citizens, to explore their world, and to excel in their education. Owen grew into a bright, likeable, enthusiastic adventurer. At Brigham Young High School, Owen met his future-wife, Audrey. Owen and Audrey both graduated in the BYH Class of 1947. After high school, Owen served in the National Guard and U.S. Army during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged, and returned to Provo to marry Audrey in 1952. Owen graduated from Brigham Young University, and the New York Flower and Fifth Avenue Medical College. Owen served his internship at Los Angeles County General Hospital, and completed his residency in psychiatry at Metropolitan State Hospital in Norwalk, California. In 1964, Owen achieved his Board Certification in Psychiatry, and established his private practice in Whittier, California. Owen avidly supported education about mental health. He served as chairman of the committee to organize the psychiatric unit at Presbyterian Intercommunity Hospital in Whittier. He also served as assistant clinical professor at the USC School of Medicine, teaching family practice residents. Owen continued his education and became a Registered Poetry Therapist. From 1975-1997, Owen published widely in the field of poetry therapy; and was closely associated with Dr. Arthur Lerner in developing the field. Owen served on the Editorial Board of The Journal of Poetry Therapy. He was former President of the American Psychiatric Arts Association, former director of courses in poetry therapy at annual meetings of the American Psychiatric Association. After Owen closed his private practice in 1995, he worked full-time for four more years in the psychiatric field at the Rancho Los Amigos Medical Center, and at the Long Beach Mental Health Services. And from 1999-2008 he was a part-time psychiatric consultant at the Rancho Los Amigos National Rehabilitation Center. Owen was an active volunteer in Lion's Club and Rotary Club. He was a dedicated supporter of Boy Scout Troop 936, and accompanied the troop on hikes for ten years. In 1990, Owen was enthused by artists Christo and Jeanne Claude's art installations. Owen befriended the pair, and worked as a monitor on The Umbrella Project over Tejon Pass in 1991. In retirement, Owen stayed busy writing memoirs and short stories with two writing groups.
