Dell and Bette had four children: 1. Brent Ashworth [BYH Class of 1967] (Charlene), Provo; 2. Mark Ashworth [BYH Class of 1969] (Debi), Mission Viejo, California; 3. He entered Brigham Young University in 1967, graduating cum laude with a BA in History and Political Science in 1972. He served in the US Army Reserves, and was called to active duty at Ft. Ord, California in 1969. He met his future wife, Charlene Mills, the daughter of Gayland Ranson “Mike” and Margaret Mills of Tempe, Arizona, at Brigham Young University, where Brent’s dad was their bishop. They were married December 16, 1970, in the Salt Lake Temple. They have nine children: Amy Josephine (1973), John Dell (1975), Matthew Ferrin (1977), Samuel Mills (1978, deceased in 1985), Adam Parrish (1979), David Alden (1981), Emily Bette (1983), Luke Ranson (1986) and Benjamin Richard (1988). They have eight grandchildren. Brent received his Juris Doctorate from the University of Utah College of Law in 1975. He served in Price, Utah as Assistant Carbon County Attorney, 1975-76, beginning with a famous murder case and briefly practiced law with the firm of Frandsen & Keller, 1976-77. He served as Secretary for the South-Eastern Utah Bar Association in 1977. He served as Vice President, General Counsel and Corporate Secretary for Nature’s Sunshine Products, Provo, Utah, 1977-2003; then as Vice President and General Counsel of Neways International, Springville, Utah, 2003-2004; and next as a legal consultant for Shaklee Corporation in Pleasanton, California; and as legal counsel to several other Utah corporations and clients. Currently Brent Ashworth is a partner with the law firm of Ashworth & Sandberg, Provo, Utah. In 2006, he started B. Ashworths, Inc., a Provo business dealing in rare documents, books, art and collectibles, located at 127 West Center St. After Price, Utah (1975-77), the Ashworth family resided in Payson, Utah (1977-82), where Brent served as a city councilman, acting mayor and bishop of the Payson Park Ward. They moved back to Provo in 1982, where he was honored as “An Outstanding Young Man of America" (1982), served on a BYU stake high council, and as bishop of the BYU 82nd Ward (1983-87). Brent Ashworth is a recipient of the Patriot Medal (1992) presented by the Utah Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; the Provo Mayor’s Award of Excellence (1999) for serving as the Co-chair of the Provo Sesquicentennial Celebration in 1998-99; the George S. Hixon (2000) and Reed Culp (2002) medals from Kiwanis International; and the Silver Beaver Award (2006) from the Boy Scouts of America. He founded the George E. Freestone Boy Scout Museum in Provo in July of 2000. The Ashworths are famous as collectors of historical documents and artifacts. The George E. Freestone Boy Scout Museum holds historic Scout artifacts, including what may be the only original Scout handbook in existence, from private collections, including those of the Brent F. Ashworth family and Al Gaudio. Ashworth, a local attorney, owns one of the nation's largest private historical collections. Ashworth is the museum's director and curator. His family has been collecting Scouting memorabilia since 1913. The highlight of his scouting career, however, has been that his seven sons have become Eagle Scouts. Some know him for his collecting and sharing experiences with church historical documents. He says he is most proud of his wonderful wife and eternal companion, Charlene Mills Ashworth and their great family. Brent Ashworth is a member of the Provo Landmarks Commission, and great-nephew of Claude Ashworth, who designed St. Francis of Assisi Catholic church in Provo, which was torn down on July 9, 2007. The destruction came as an "absolute shock", said Brent. "It's a total shock. It seems like a death in the family," said Ashworth, who also owns B. Ashworth's Rare Books in downtown Provo. "The Catholic Church wanted the Landmarks Commission to remove the historic landmark designation, but we voted that down. He was born on April 27, 1949 in Provo, Utah, the son of George C. Bennion and Joye McRae Bennion. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served a mission to Sweden. He was a wrestler at Brigham Young High School, where he graduated in the Class of 1967. He received his master's degree from BYU and he was working on his PhD at the University of Texas in Austin. OREM -- Joye Bennion, who accompanied her husband on a teaching assignment to China several years ago, has turned the trip into a long-term humanitarian effort to help educate underprivileged children. Every year about 60 teachers from BYU make the trek to China to teach English in various universities. Joye made her first trip with her husband, George, a BYU English professor. While there, she visited a primitive village school and decided she needed to help. For the past five years, the Bennions have returned to the little village school in Lan Gao County, Shaanzi Province. Returned teachers automatically become members of the China Teacher's Alumni Association, an organization Joye Bennion began, which has since become a part of the BYU Kennedy Center's exchange teaching program. Through the association, Joye Bennion has initiated several efforts to help the village school. During that first visit, she found a school building that was more of a shanty; textbooks few, old and outdated; and a little pink-cheeked teacher who had not been paid for four months. Yet villagers continued to make every effort possible to see their children be educated. The villagers live in remote huts on a mountainside. Bennion, a BYU sociology graduate, said the tiniest children walk from 1-3 miles to school each day. About 40 children stay at the school Monday-Friday rather than face the daily trek. Bennion said she was touched by the sincere devotion and determination in the faces of the youngsters who were so eager to learn to read and write. After that first visit, Bennion soon decided to return -- riding 15 hours on a train and two hours by car -- to the village with some school supplies. But Bennion said she felt her contribution was "hopelessly inadequate." So, when the alumni association was formed, she suggested making the village a project. Since then, the 4-year-old association has made numerous contributions to the Shan Yi primary school of Lan Gao County. Because families live on about $200 per year, many cannot afford to pay the $50 tuition. The association has paid tuition for 197 students, funded a modern addition to the school and has started a library that will make books available to every student. In addition, the association has established a $1,000 scholarship at Xi'an Foreign Language University, which is designated for poor students who qualify to enter. Bennion, who has made several trips back to the village, will return again April 16 [2001]. "We go over to monitor the various expenditures, to see how things are going, and what kind of advances have been made," said Bennion. After hearing about the alumni group's efforts, several retired Chinese businessmen from the nearby city of Ankang have taken the little school under their wing and established a charitable organization with three goals:
* To re-establish a family in the event they have lost their dwelling to a natural disaster.
* To provide tuition for qualified students to go on to higher education.
* To establish a workshop to train handicapped children to be self-sufficient. He was born in Rexburg, Idaho on June 19, 1948 to Frederick William and Bonnie Call Bergeson. Stan graduated from Brigham Young High School in the Class of 1967. He graduated from BYU with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education with a minor in Business. He won a four-year Scholarship on the BYU Track Team. Stan was a member of the NCAA College All-American Half-Mile and NCAA College Championship Team. He was a salesman in computer software at the time of his death. Stan had extensive sales training with Miller-Heiman's Strategic Selling, IBM's Solution-Oriented Selling, Compaq's Selling to Major Accounts, and Dictaphone's System Selling. He won awards with UBS, IBM, and Dictaphone for his selling abilities. He is survived by his son, Eli Storey; daughter Chelsea Storey; mother, Bonnie Call Bergeson; and sister, Stacy Bergeson Zaelit. Greg first married Katherine Jo Rasmussen who was born on February 2, 1950 in Boise, Idaho. Her parents were Joseph Merrill Rasmussen and Dorris Gillette Rasmussen. They married on August 21, 1971. Katherine died on November 30, 1992 in Monticello, Utah. Her interment, Monticello City Cemetery. ~ ~ ~ ~ OBITUARY OF HIS 2ND WIFE: Marianne Washburn Kjar-Duerden, born, September 8, 1943, to Viron and Mary Washburn of Pleasant Grove's Monkeytown neighborhood, passed away at home Friday, August 29, 2014. A graduate of Pleasant Grove High School, Class of 1961. She attended BYU where she met and married David Louis Kjar from Sanpete County. They had eight children, one (Nathan) died in infancy and seven survived to have families of their own. David died in 1991 while they lived in Gunnison, where he was a hospital administrator. The family continued to live in Gunnison, for a few years and then moved to Provo in 1997. After 15 years of living in Provo, she met and married Greg Duerden. They successfully blended their families into quite a clan; 13 children and step-children, 11 spouses, 55 grandchildren, two great-grandchildren. For the last year, Marianne and Greg served as Church Services Missionaries at LDS Tech. A lifelong active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, she served as Relief Society President, once in Gunnison and twice in Provo, she had several teaching positions, and as Stake Singles Co-Chair for three years in Provo. She was preceded in death by her son, Nathan, her husband, David and both of her parents. She is survived by her husband Greg, her seven children: Ron (Stephanie), Heidi, Kristen (Matt), John (Jeralyn), Megan (Maurod), Paul (Jen), Steven (Damaris); six step-children: Doris (Scott), Holly, Michelle (Brant), Rachel, Gary (Cabrel), Mackenzie; grandchildren; great-grandchildren; brother, Mark and numerous cousins, friends and loved ones. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at the Oak Hills Provo Stake Center, 925 East North Temple Drive, Provo, Utah. Breinholt, famous Utah artist and educator, age 81, died at home in Provo on January 29, 1997. Floyd was born December 25, 1915, in Ephraim, Utah, to Wilford L. and Jenny Marie Breinholt. On June 12, 1939, he married Tess E. Tidwell in the Manti Temple. Tess preceded him in death in 1975. On Oct. 20, 1976, he married Claudia Young Duerden in the Provo Temple. He is survived by his wife Claudia, four children, and four step-children: Mark F. Breinholt (Susan), Karen Breinholt Morgan (Jerrold, Deceased), Mace T. A weekly newspaper, the Salina Sun in south central Utah, has been sold. The new owners are Jim and Lori Olsen of Gunnison, who purchased the interests as the result of a Chapter 11 bankruptcy by Post Publishing. The newspapers were sold to Post by Kevin Ashby, former Salina resident now living in Price. Jim Olsen formerly worked for Post Publishing. Ashby reportedly had planned to publish a newspaper under another name until negotiations were completed between him and Post Publishing, allowing him to again publish the Salina Sun sell his interest. Greg Duerden has been hired by the new owners as Editor of the Salina Sun. Duerden has worked for newspapers in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado.
