Harris was on a world tour. He also served as a superintendent of multiple school districts in Utah. Nuttall was the grandson of L. John Nuttall, who was private secretary to Brigham Young, John Taylor, and Wilford Woodruff, as well as being closely connected with Brigham Young Academy, before it became BYU in 1903. The younger L. John was born in 1887, the son of L. John Nuttall, Jr. and his wife Christina Little. Nuttall was one of 13 children. Although born in Salt Lake City, he was raised in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Nuttall was appointed principal of a school in Pleasant Grove in 1906, when he was only 19. He joined the BYU faculty in 1908 as a critic teacher at the BYU Training School. In 1910 Nuttall began studies at Columbia University. He married Fannie Burns, a native of Puma, Arizona in 1911. That same year Nuttall completed his bachelors degree. He finished work on his masters degree in 1912. From 1912 to 1915 Nuttall was a teacher at Payson High School. He was principal of Spanish Fork High School in 1915 and 1916, and from 1916 to 1918 he served as superintendent of the Iron County School District based in Cedar City, Utah. From 1919 to 1922 he was superintendent of the Nebo School District. In 1922, Nuttall became the dean of the College of Education at BYU. He served in this position until 1930. During this time he also earned his PhD from Columbia University in 1929. From 1922 to 1923 he served as president of the Utah Education Association. In 1930, he became the director of the Stewart Training School, which was affiliated with the University of Utah. In 1932 Nuttall became superintendent of the Salt Lake City School District. Nuttall served in this position for twelve years until he died in Salt Lake City in 1944 of a coronary occlusion.

There was a lady principal named Hermese Peterson, a very dedicated teacher. She was the principal. She dealt a lot of misery out to me, because I was one of the kids that ran around with holes in his overalls and toes out of his shoes. I had a difficult time sometimes getting my class work done. She was very patient. I had three teachers that decided I was going to learn or I was going to have to have some very serious conversations with my father, who at that time was the principal of BYU High School." --Carlyle Lambert, interviewed in 1999. ~ ~ ~ ~ Hermese Feneor Peterson was born on November 18, 1879 in Pleasant Grove, Utah. Her parents were Nils Peter Peterson and Cecelia Mathelda Serene Holder Peterson. Hermes Peterson died on December 24, 1965 in Orem, Utah. Her interment, Pleasant Grove City Cemetery, Utah. Apparently she did not marry.

She was born April 25, 1909 in St. Johns, Arizona, a daughter of Brigham Young and Stella Jarvis Peterson. She was the third of 12 children. She married Roy Tanner, October 14, 1934. He preceded her in death. She married Dr. Joseph Sudweeks, August 4, 1950. He also preceded her in death. Beth was especially bright from the time she was a child. She could read from a version of the Bible at four years old. Beth was graduated from St. Johns High School and went on to graduate from the University of Arizona. She earned her Masters Degree from Brigham Young University. She continued her education throughout her life, studying in Boston, Massachusetts and in other areas of the country. She was a great educator both in learning, teaching, and counseling. She served as editor of The Instructor Magazine for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for many years. She was also responsible for editing the Sunday School curriculum. She will be remembered for her activity in the Utah Republican Party and for her service as Women's Committee Chairman. Survivors include: a brother and four sisters, B.Y. (Phoebe) Peterson, Mesa, AZ; Anna (Phil) Richey and Ethel Hext, both of St. Johns, AZ; Ora (Adelbert) Nelson, Saford, AZ; and Lois (David) Salisbury, Provo; also many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, two husbands, two sisters, Stella Whitmer and Pauline Hansen Oldham; one brother, George; and three infant siblings. Funeral services were held Saturday, May 19, 2001, in the Walker Mortuary, 85 East 300 South, Provo. Interment, Provo City Cemetery. [Deseret News, Thursday, May 17, 2001.]
