The Beginner I Stained Glass class meets once a week (2 1/2 hour sessions) for six weeks. The cost of the class is $55 plus basic tools and supplies. A suggested list of tools and supplies is below. All tools and supplies can be bought at our store at very competitive prices. Some supplies are optional, and you will not be required to purchase everything at once. You can expect to pay approximately $225 over the six week period of the class.

All students will be be required to wear protective eye shields and closed toed shoes while in class. Protective eye shields will be for sale if you need them. These safety precautions are requisite to taking any stained glass instructions from Designer Glass Works or any of our instructors. Safety is paramount and will be stressed in class. Neither Designer Glass Works, Connie Johnson nor other instructors are responsible for any injury. No one under the age of 15 will be allowed to take this class.

A good glass cutter is an absolute necessity. The first session we will learn to score and break glass. You will get a chance to use all the different styles of cutters. Then you will be able to make an informed choice on a cutter.

Your class fee includes glass, pattern and paper for the first project. The first three weeks will be spent learning basic skills such as pattern selection, glass selection, cutting patterns, scoring and breaking glass, grinding glass, foiling glass and of course, soldering your piece together.

During the last three weeks you will use these skills in making a piece of stained glass of your own choosing. You will get to select your own pattern (30 pieces maximum) and choose your own glass. By the end of the six weeks, you will be able to take home a finished piece of stained glass, possibly two pieces. After the first three weeks, everyone works at their own pace. Focus will be placed on the skills, rather than being pressured to finish a whole piece.

Don't be afraid of stained glass, anyone can do it. You don't have to be an artist to be able to do stained glass. There are plenty of books and patterns available on the market that are full of designs you can use. You can do it with just a little time and patience from the skills you'll learn in this class. Please bring a notebook for taking notes each week and safety glass if you have them.
