John F. McManus, President The John Birch Society PO Box 8040 Appleton, Wisconsin 54912
Dear Jack,
My response to your letter has been somewhat delayed because your letter left me with more questions than answers. Charges and claims were made that I had no way of answering. Since the former CEO, Vance Smith, has had so many charges leveled at him, I felt it only fair to ask him to answer some of these questions and claims to which he is certainly more qualified to answer than I. Mr. Smith answered a list of prepared questions and just today I received his response.
I will do as requested, Jack, and will forward your letter to the “others” with this reply and the letter from Vance Smith.
Let me tell you, Jack, the trademark of The John Birch Society has been that we could always count on the truth. We knew that the information we shared with our neighbors and friends could always be verified. Truth is our only weapon. That was the case until there appeared a crack in the armor in October of 2005. What I have discovered since that time is that there are men in leadership positions in The John Birch Society that are willing to say whatever is necessary to stay in power.
The battle with the Conspiracy is too advance, too deadly, and too serious for us to take our eye off the ball. Robert Welch knew what he was doing when he set up his organization and all I and others are asking is that we return to the system he put in place. Speaking for myself, I don’t want to abandon the JBS over this, but I certainly fear for its future if we don’t return to the principles laid down by Robert Welch.
Sincerely,
W. Rusty Barlow 13656 N. Laughran Rd. Pocatello, Idaho 83202
