Jim Jeffries: I Swear To God
Official Synopsis:
Call him any name you want, but stand-up phenom Jim Jefferies is acknowledged as the fastest rising, most hilarious cutting-edge comic ever to claw his way to the pinnacle of the comedy world. Hailed by critics, Jefferies' glorious roasting of society's most sacred cows has made him a headlining sensation. Now, in this exclusive 60-minute HBO solo debut, he turns his industrial-strength laser wit on everything from sex to religion to family life. So, will you feel guilty as sin just for watching Jim Jefferies: I swear To God Heaven only knows.
Our Take:
I can appreciate a comedian who drinks beer on stage and doesn’t make an ass of himself (Well, at least not that much, anyway.) Jim Jefferies struts his Australian humor in this entertaining 60 minute DVD. Jefferies’ comedy style come across to me as a mix between Chris Rock, Dave Chappelle, and George Carlin. With great storytelling skills covering odd and outlandish stories from his childhood and nightlife experiences, it’s a dynamic presentation of jokes, theories, and animated quirks.
At first it took me a while to warm up to Jefferies. I don’t know if it was the accent that I wasn’t used to or what, but as soon as he chimed in with his thoughts on religion he got my attention. Then after hearing his drug escapades that go madly wrong and his interesting (and most likely therapy-causing) childhood memories, he had my comedy approval. I’m not surprised though, as HBO usually delivers good material, especially for stand-up comedians.
Special Features:
The DVD has no extra features.
Conclusion:
This is not a DVD for the easily offended, however, as he covers graphic topics such as sex, religion, and drugs. But if that’s your type of humor than you more than likely will find something you like here.
RECOMMENDED!
