Our Take:
When I first saw the commercials for Greek, my initial thought was that all we needed was another show like The O.C. or One Tree Hill. When I actually watched it, my first thought was, “Wow, it’s kind of a stretch to air this on ABC Family Channel.” But my second thought was, “This is actually quite a fun little show!”

While I still think a series about college fraternity and sorority life filled with underage drinking, wild partying, and lots of sex is a questionable fit on a family network owned by Disney, Greek is a terrific slice of soap-operatic fun; fun being the key word here. Unlike the aforementioned One Tree Hill or shows of its ilk, Greek doesn’t take itself too seriously. And while the college students at play in the show are your typical melodramatic archetypes, Greek knows that it’s not serving up high art. Instead there are pretty girls, hunky guys, likeable characters, lots of laughs, and a little bit of actual character drama. For a show I didn’t think I was going to like, Greek is surprisingly addictive.

Greek Chapter One (read: Season One) comes to DVD with a nice collection of bonus features that fans are sure to love. Here’s the breakdown:

- Deleted Scenes (2 minutes) – Three short scenes.
- Greek: The Initiation (10 minutes) – A decent look behind-the-scenes.
- Chapter Two Sneak Peek – A preview of the upcoming second season.
- Extended Music Sequence.
- Audio Commentaries Featuring various cast and crew on almost every episode.

There are a lot of great young actors playing memorable characters here, including Kelsey Grammer’s daughter Spencer as Casey, and Scott Foster as Cappie, one of the best characters on the show. Greek isn’t reinventing the wheel or anything, but if you like watching pretty teenagers (and slightly beyond teenagers) blow all their problems out of proportion, then Greek: Chapter One is worth checking out.

RECOMMENDED!
