Official Synopsis: Duck, you cat and mouse fans! Volume 4 is comin' at ya with 12 more catlamitous cartoons from the hit Kids' WB! TV show. Tom and Jerry just can't help plunging into one outrageous situation after another - from Zen master Tom beset by noisy neighbor Jerry (Zent Out of Shape) to mystical transformations (More Powers to You, Power Tom and Catch Me Though You Can't), from encounters with a genie (I Dream of Meanie) and two sore sorceresses (Which Witch) to the splendidly silly - and self-explanatory - Adventures in Penguin Sitting and Cat Show Catastrophe. And you just can't help getting merrily caught up in their riotous fun.
Our Take: With Kids WB coming to an end, I'm not sure what the fate of Tom & Jerry Tales will be. It's had two seasons and this Volume Four is collecting the first few episodes of season two, but whether or not this show will continue on a different channel or not, I haven't heard.
Just about all the shows on Kids WB have the same style of animation. Tom & Jerry Tales is different, and it’s nice in that they have there own style. It's something that resembles its original incarnation of the classic Tom & Jerry but with brighter colors. The colors actually would look better if they were more muted but I'm sure the creators at work here wanted it to fit into the animation style that kids love today - and the bright neon colors at play here really are the only thing that make this show resemble any of the other anime-infused shows out there right now.
Much like the other sets, Tom & Jerry Tales: Volume Four comes with no special features and a limited runtime (88 minutes). I absolutely hate that they release cartoon shows like this. I understand why they do it, but as a DVD consumer I want the whole package, not a piece or two of it little by little.
I don't think I could ever get sick of watching Tom & Jerry but I also don't think I would ever pop in Tom & Jerry Tales: Volume Four before I would my original classic discs. Although they did a great job of reworking this show it still feels a little bit lacking. It's definitely missing the bulk of the slapstick violence, but more than that the show can just feel weird when you're watching it and thinking about the original characters.
