Official Synopsis: From a dying planet they’ve come: a rogue band of killers led by ruthless Saylon (Billy Zane) and his sexy Isis (Amelia Cooke). Their mission: build a wormhole portal between our two worlds to facilitate a full-scale invasion of Earth and the ultimate extermination of the human race. Mankind’s only hop[e for survival is Alien Agent Rykker (Mark Dacascos), an unrelenting warrior, a weapons expert and a master of hand-to-hand combat. Together with a courageous young heroine (Emma Lehana), Rykker takes on this army of assassins from beyond the stars in an explosive, titanic battle that will decide the fate of the world. Our Take: Alien Agent is fast paced and action-filled, which helps viewers get past the flaws in the logic upon which much of the movie is based, so overall I liked it. The hero, Rykker, is sort of a cross between Bruce Lee, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and a Timex watch: he takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Mark Dacascos plays Rykker as a taciturn bad ass and haven’t quite decided if he’s doing a decent job of acting or if he’s another Jean-Claude Van Damme who can’t act his way out of a wet paper bag. But I do know that Emma Lehana does an excellent job in this film. Her character plays a pivotal role at crucial times but it wouldn’t even matter if she was just solely as eye candy; she still makes the film a better one to watch.
There is a lot of casual violence in this film, including a lot of bloody deaths, so the R rating is certainly justified. It’s not seeing numerous people killed that makes this an occasionally disturbing movie; it’s the off-handedly casual way that people are killed that makes it unsuitable for impressionable younger audiences. However, I think people who enjoy this genre of movie should be able to make the distinction between fantasy and reality without degrading our culture’s moral view about the sanctity of life.
There are no extras on the Alien Agent DVD.
I recommend Alien Agent for adults because it’s action-packed entertainment that provides plenty of bang for your buck. You may not want to buy it because it doesn’t strike me as a classic that you’ll watch over and over again, but I definitely think it’s worth renting.
RECOMMENDED!
