Our Take:
While this is Volume 6 of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles on DVD, it actually represents most of the show’s third season. Lionsgate, a company I generally respect in terms of their DVD releases, has really made something of a mess of these Turtles DVDs. Originally released as 12-episode volumes rather than complete season sets, the studio is now trying to categorize the shows. But one episode on this set is from Season Four, so they haven’t been entirely successful. At this point, I’m not even sure what shows I have from what seasons, but I’m sure some dedicated fans will be able to spend a little time on the internet and figure out what’s what.

Add to that the fact that the transfers on these releases are pretty weak and that this volume for some reason has no extra features (whereas Volume 5 had a few cool short featurettes), and the result is completely disjointed. With all that being said, though, the fact remains that TMNT was an incredibly fun cartoon and remains so. While I’ll always love the original, gritty, Eastman & Laird Turtles best, this cartoon is a huge part of my childhood. I can tell you all the bad things about the DVD set, but would I not own this collection? No. And if you feel the same way as I do about the Turtles, chances are you feel the same way about the DVDs.

So the bottom line is that Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Volume 6 is an odd collection in terms of episodes, with poor visual quality and no extra features, but a great cartoon. I guess in this one, it’s going to come down to nostalgia versus quality.
