100 Girls

Official Synopsis:
When a blackout knocks out an elevator in a college girls' dorm, Matthew (Jonathan Tucker) and a mystery girl connect carnally and emotionally. But he's left in the dark as to her true identity. He's got 100 suspects, and a slew of hilarious schemes to worm his way into the hearts and panty drawers of each and every one of them! 100 Girls is a laugh-a-minute teen comedy caper that fills the screen with a bevy of sizzling coeds as they fall prey to a love-struck freshman on a mission to find his soul mate... any devious way he can!

Our Take:
I’m not entirely sure why this film has been re-released on DVD, since as far as I can tell the disc is exactly the same as the previous version. If I had to guess, I’d say that, while 100 Girls remains a cult favorite with a small-but-loyal following, many of its stars have gone on to bigger and better things. With some of the 100 girls of the title made up of Katherine Heigl (Grey’s Anatomy), Jaime Pressley (My Name Is Earl), Emmanuelle Chriqui (You Don’t Mess With The Zohan), and Larisa Oleynick (10 Things I Hate About You), and lead actor Jonathan Tucker a staple in TV and horror movies, I can see how Lionsgate would expect to be able to revitalize this film on disc. The new cover art featuring said girls (whereas the original cover art simply had some generic girls) is a clear indication of where the marketing was headed for this disc.

Luckily, 100 Girls is a great film. It’s a little over-the-top in its raunchy humor, but it’s a fitting follow-up to writer/director Michael Davis’s classic film Eight Days A Week. Ironically, Davis’ next major picture would be Shoot ‘Em Up, which is a bit of a change up from these early romantic comedies of his.

It would have been nice if Lionsgate had gone back and made a better DVD release for 100 Girls, as there no extras on this or the previous edition, but apparently a new cover is all that was warranted. Oh, well. If you’ve never seen the film, it’s definitely worth watching, but there’s nothing new about this DVD if you already own it.
