Our Take:
Every time I watch CHiPs on DVD, I have the show’s theme song stuck in my head for days (and sometimes even weeks). Perhaps that’s because it’s such a synth-tastic piece of ‘70s theme song-ery, but I think it also has to do with the sheer glee I get out of watching this show.

The 22 episodes collected in CHiPs: The Complete Second Season represent some of the most fun you can have in television as far as I’m concerned. I’m aware that many people don’t remember the show as fondly as I do, but it’s not just pure nostalgia at work here. Going back and watching the show, I can still enjoy its blend of good natured humor and police-on-motorcycles action. I mean, sure, we’re not going to see any action sequences on CHiPs like you would on say, 24, but for the time period, they do pull off some of the car chases fairly convincingly. Anyway, if you’re looking for hardcore action, you’ve come to the wrong place. If you want a fun, enjoyable show that never takes itself too seriously, then settle in!

As with the Season One collection, there are a few extra features included on the DVD.

- The Real CHiPs (15 minutes) – Erik Estrada talks with real CHP members in this fun new feature.
- The Great Adventures of CHiPs – A two-hour special episode (original air date: 5/12/79) that takes a look back at the first two seasons of the show. It’s basically just a clip show, but I guess it’s nice to have for completists like me.

While I still would like to see more extra features on my CHiPs DVDs (what, is Larry Wilcox too busy to participate?), at least Warner isn’t dumping them bare bones like some other DVD studios do (I’m looking at you, Paramount). CHiPs: The Complete Second Season is another freewheeling ride on the California Highway with everyone’s favorite motorcycle cops!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
