Our Take:
It’s kind of hard not to get a little sucked into JAG after watching numerous seasons of it for review. I’m still constantly amazed at how long this show was on the air and I doubt I’ll ever consider myself a fan, but I’m beginning to understand why it endured. It boils down to a simple formula more than anything else: take one part soap opera, one part legal drama, one part CSI (or NCIS more accurately), and one part Top Gun and mix them all together for a homogenous but not entirely un-entertaining show. Of course, for me the brightest part of the show has always been Catherine Bell. The rest of the cast is fine in their roles, but Bell always managed to be both insanely gorgeous and charismatic as well.

Season Six of the show saw the creators take some chances by changing relationships, adding characters, and dropping in a few bombshell revelations along the way. We also get to see something of a partial change in Harm and Mac’s relationship towards the end of the season, but of course for the most part that remains an undercurrent, as we all know what happens to shows once the lead male and female characters hook up.

As is almost always the case with Paramount TV-on-DVD releases, there are no extra features on JAG: The Complete Sixth Season.

I’m grading JAG a C+, but it’s what I would consider a “high” C+. What that means is that the show is actually pretty decent, but for the most part it’s an average drama that’s just very watchable. I can’t really grade it higher because I’ve never been able to get all that sucked into it, but what it boils down to is the show ranks as being slightly above average in quality, and that’s not a terrible thing. Fans of the show will ignore my grade anyway, so that’s what I’m sticking with.

Show: C+
