Our Take:
Well, this is what you get for all your bags of nuts.

For those of you who think that I’m nuts, I’m guessing that you haven’t heard that Jericho was saved from cancellation by a letter-writing campaign that involved thousands of bags of peanuts being mailed to the executives at CBS, the show’s network. Thanks to a line of dialogue at the end of Season One and some very determined fans, Jericho was brought back for a seven-episode second season. And then promptly canceled again when the ratings failed to materialize. Ahh… networks, you gotta love them. They take a show off the air for four months and then wonder what happened to all the fans. Amazing. Simply amazing.

Well, you certainly can’t blame the quality of the second season’s episodes. As much as I was never able to truly embrace Jericho like I wanted to, the second season offers up a lot of what fans want: action and plot development. Yes, character development and the ensemble nature of the show takes a bit of a back seat due to the shortened season, but unlike some other popular network shows, Jericho actually furthered its post-apocalyptic plot quite a bit in two short seasons. With the second season only seven episodes and the third season a question mark at best, the producers knew they had to load a lot into these episodes, and fans won’t be disappointed

As with the first season DVD set, Jericho: The Second Season includes some nice bonus features:

* Rebuilding Jericho (25 minutes) – Cast and crew talk about the show and its cancellation.
* Nut Job (9 minutes) – Focuses on the aforementioned nut-mailing campaign.
* Deleted Scenes – From each episode.
* Audio Commentaries – On every episode by numerous cast and crew members.
* Patriots and Tyrants: Alternate Unaired Ending Segment from Season Finale – A much darker ending that would have set up season three.

Jericho: The Second Season doesn’t answer every question fans have, but it does tie things up pretty well so that people won’t be left hanging too much. I never could figure out why I didn’t embrace Jericho from the start, but it looks like I’ll never have the chance to figure it out now, either.
