Mama’s Boy

Official Synopsis:
Adulthood is soooooo last millennium. Twenty-nine-year-old Jeffrey Mannus is a stay-at-home guy. Not his home. His mom's. But that doesn't mean he's living la vida cushy. What about the time his ant farm broke? Or the day he lost his hat? And now his biggest challenge just walked in the door: Mert Rosenbloom, mom's new beau and Jeffrey's new rival for her 24/7 attention. Mert's gotta go. And no plot is too devious or immature to make Mert history. Comic actors extraordinaire Jon Heder (Napoleon Dynamite, Blades of Glory), Diane Keaton (Something's Gotta Give) and Jeff Daniels (Dumb and Dumber) headline this good-time salute to not growing up. Make yourself at home. And ask Mom to make some popcorn.

Our Take:
John Heder cannot headline a movie. Why studios haven’t processed that bit of information yet is beyond me. The man still has the ability and potential to be funny…but only in a sidekick way, much like how David Spade was only at his best by the side of Chris Farley. And while Heder isn’t alone in Mama’s Boy, the heft of the story falls on his shoulders and he shrugged big time.

I actually had an uncomfortable time watching Mama’s Boy. Every once in a blue moon I would actually laugh at a joke and for the split-second I would try and tell myself, “ See, this movie actually is funny.” But let’s face it, I couldn’t even fool myself with that little mantra. I think I was saying it simply out of pity. Everyone on screen is someone I respect (Jeff Daniels, Diane Keaton, Anna Faris, and even Heder himself) and I just didn’t want to believe that they believed in such a piece of crap movie.

Special features include:

* Commentary by Director Tim Hamilton.

* Additional Scenes (6 minutes).

All of the jokes in Mama’s Boy are stale, Heder drifts in and out of playing Napoleon Dynamite in every other scene and the only redeeming quality of the movie, Anna Faris, has way too small a part. You roll all that together and you end up with a great, big, stinking pile of Mama’s Boy.
