Official Synopsis: This Just In...
The Onion invades DVD! Based on the wildly popular newspaper hailed by The New Yorker as "the funniest publication in the United States", The Onion Movie brings you uncensored, uninhibited, UNRATED news and views from around the world. In a stunning development, when Onion News anchorman Norm Archer (Len Cariou) is asked to compromise his journalistic integrity to please a new corporate sponsor, he doesn't just get mad, he gets... angry. Taking aim at pop stars, prisoners, peace talks and, of course, high-testosterone action films, The Onion Movie delivers hard-hitting headlines - and side-splitting laughs! Our Take: Huh?
I feel as though the producers of The Onion Movie are breaking some sort of false advertising law in naming whatever I just watched as “a movie”. They could have at least titled it something that would have clued me in, like Epic Movie or Date Movie, because that is the exact level of “side-splitting laughs!” The Onion Movie provides.
* Outtakes (3 minutes).
The only reason I didn’t give The Onion Movie an F is because a few familiar faces from other sketch comedy groups that I like show up throughout this movie. That was the one redeeming factor I had throughout watching and it wasn’t even close to making it a worthwhile experience.
Overall Picture: Movie: D- DVD: C
