Official Synopsis: 30 Days And 30 Nights - Hollywood To The Heartland. Hit the road with Vince Vaughn as he takes on America's heartland with the wildest comedy tour of all time. Friends like Justin Long, Jon Favreau and Dwight Yoakam join Vince and four of today's brightest comics for a 30 city, 30 night laughfest where "the comedy doesn't stop" (Phil Villarreal, Arizona Daily Star). So hitch a ride on the tour bus and go behind the scenes - it's a party you'll never forget.
Our Take: I still think that the trailer for Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show is extremely funny. I’ve watched it again since seeing the movie, and it still makes me laugh. The unfortunate truth, though, is that the trailer is all you really ever need to see. The movie fails to deliver on the promise of the trailer, and with the exception of one truly hysterical bit about roller skating, the film ultimately falls flat.
At first glance, Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show looks like a big-screen version of Dane Cook’s Tourgasm. The main differences however, are that the comics on Tourgasm are all extremely funny, and the comics in VVWWCS are largely, well… not. Tourgasm was also very funny when the comics were off stage and just goofing around. VVWWCS drags in these parts, apparently trying to become a real documentary rather than a comedy film; you find yourself just waiting around for more stand-up to come along, even though you know it’s not going to be that funny.
For fans of the film, there are a few extra features included on the DVD:
* Commentary with Vince Vaughn and Producer Peter Billingsley.
* Commentary with the Comedians.
* Bonus Stand-Up Material (57 minutes) – Here’s the meat of the extras. You get to see a lot more of the comics’ acts, which does add something to them, even if I still think they’re not all that funny.
* The Tour – A look at the logistics of the tour.
* The Making-Of Vince Vaughn's Wild West Comedy Show – This and the next feature both document the making of the film.
* Behind the Scenes.
Vince Vaughn’s Wild West Comedy Show was a huge bomb at the box office, and while I always hate to see an actor I like serve up a film that’s a complete box office failure, there just isn’t any reason that this film should have done any better than it did. Watch the trailer again, laugh out loud, but don’t bother wondering what you’re missing in the finished film, because the answer is nothing.
