Our Take:
Hawaii Five-O: The Fourth Season is technically good TV. I use the word “technically” because while there is obviously good production value, acting and stories at work here, this is a show that just hasn’t aged well. There is not a chance that someone in their twenties today will stumble across this show and fall in love with it.

How can a show have good stories and still not be something I want to watch? I’ll tell you. The stories are clever and original but what they aren’t are something that can sustain the 60-minute formula of each episode. There is so much not happening in this show that it speaks volumes.

The DVD comes with no special features but there are 24 episodes at 60 minutes a piece so the run time alone makes it a nice enough set.

I can see why Hawaii Five-O was such a successful show back when it aired but compared to the caliber of storytelling and action of today’s standards it just can’t hold up. There are a few stories scattered throughout that, with some editing, really could have been something special (an episode about a sniper that felt a bit like Dirty Harry meets the DC Snipers comes to mind) but there is no serious draw into this television show if you didn’t watch it when it first aired. Hawaii Five-O: The Fourth Season is something that only die hard fans are ever going to purchase.
