Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins

Official Synopsis:
Martin Lawrence leads an all-star cast, including Cedric the Entertainer, Mo'Nique, and Mike Epps, in the hit comedy Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins. When a celebrated TV show host (Lawrence) returns to his hometown in the South, his family is there to remind him that going home is no vacation! It's one outrageous predicament after another when big-city attitude and small-town values collide in this hysterical comedy critics are praising for its "over-the-top hilarity!" (Roger Moore, Orlando Sentinel)

Our Take:
It’s disheartening to think back upon Martin Lawrence’s career. I used to greatly enjoy his movies; Bad Boys and Blue Streak are both terrific and even Big Momma’s House isn’t unwatchable, but ever since then he’s only gone downhill. He’s branded himself to a type of humor that isn’t funny and hasn’t bothered to try anything new in eight years. Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins fits in perfectly with his failing movie career.

And here’s the thing: I have nothing against black comedians. There are more than enough great ones out there. But you want to know what I don’t think is great? Black comedians who do nothing but make fun of white people. The absolute best thing I can say about Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins is that, while it does make fun of white people, it doesn’t beat the jokes to death. So while it still isn’t funny, it at least isn’t repetitive to the point of making you want to kill yourself. The comedy in this film is at such a low level of intelligence that it can only be compared to a spoof movie.

Special features include:

* Alternate Opening (3 minutes)

* Deleted and Extended Scenes (22 minutes)

* Outtakes (19 minutes)

* Bringing The Family Together (12 minutes)

* On Location: Getting Down and Dirty (7 minutes)

* Going Home: Real Stories Of The Cast (5 minutes)

* Joe “We’re Family” Music Video (4 minutes)

* Commentary With Director Malcolm D. Lee – Yep, that’s cousin.

While Welcome Home Roscoe Jenkins wants to be a family movie with a bit of a heart to it, it fails utterly and completely. Anytime any touching moment comes up, they make a joke about it. The filmmakers never let the scenes play out in any natural way. Luckily, I’m guessing that most of you already know you won’t be watching this movie and I have to say that I commend you for knowing that in advance.
