Weeds: Season Three

Official Synopsis:
America's favorite pot-dealing soccer mom is more addictive than ever in the third season of Weeds, the highly acclaimed Showtime Original Series. Emmy and Golden Globe winner Mary-Louise Parker stars as Nancy Botwin, a single mom who resorts to dealing pot after her husband dies suddenly. But when an offbeat way to make ends meet grows into a mini-empire, the mother of all dealers finds she may be in over her head - and on the verge of taking everyone else with her. Hilarious and subversive, Weeds is the hit that put the herb in suburb.

Our Take:
I don’t watch a lot of drug-related movies and TV shows not because I take some moral high ground, but mostly because I find the majority of them to be really stupid. Lowest-common-denominator entertainment has never interested me, and it seems like any form of entertainment that deals with any kind of drug always panders to the brain-dead element. Weeds, on the other hand, is a show that I love, simply because it refuses to do so. Yes, it deals with a pot dealing soccer mom, but this is a show that is intelligent, witty, and compelling, without ever having to resort to stupid humor or obvious gags to ensure that less intelligent viewers understand it.

Weeds is a character dramedy. While the show’s half-hour format and generous helping of humor could label it as a straight-up sitcom, it’s really so much more than that. More often than not, Weeds can be serious, dark or moody while working its brand of humor. It’s that perfect blend of comedy and drama that always makes for gripping television. Since I don’t subscribe to movie channels, I always have to wait for Weeds on DVD, but that’s okay because I like watching the episodes in large chunks, and they always come with a nice helping of extra features.

In Weeds: Season Three, said extra features include:

* Gag Reel (6 minutes).
* Uncle Awol Featurette with Justin Kirk
(7 minutes) – An in-character interview.
* G.M.A.: Good Morning Agrestic!
(33 minutes) – Six public access channel show clips from within the show’s universe.
* Mary-Kate Olsen Bio
(3 minutes) – A quick profile of the show’s newest cast member.
* "Little Boxes" Randy Newman
(3 minutes) – Focuses on the iconic theme song.
* Eight Commentaries with Cast and Crew.
* Seven Trivia Tracks.
* "Little Boxes" Music Montages
(4 minutes) – Four versions of the theme song.

* Soundtrack Sampler –
Sample each song on the soundtrack.

What’s great about Weeds: Season Three is that not only is it a great show, but you can really pick up on what’s going on very easily. While I’d certainly recommend going back and starting at the beginning, you can also choose to jump in right here and be caught up pretty quickly. You’ve heard about this show for a few years now, so why not go ahead and give it a shot? It’s seriously addicting.

RECOMMENDED!
