Official Synopsis: Survivor's back and better than ever with the record-breaking tenth season, Survivor: Palau. 39 days, 20 Survivors, dozens of lies, a laid-down torch, an incredible winning streak and finally, one sole Survivor. Survivor: Palau comes to DVD for the first time in a 4-disc set with so much more than you saw before, including all the episodes, exclusive featurettes and audio commentaries. Replay and relive the most memorable and outrageous moments of the season as the Survivors outwit, outplay and outlast each other for the one-million-dollar prize.
Our Take: There's been a lot of reality television in the past decade, but arguably the biggest and the baddest of them all has been Survivor. While it wasn't the first reality show, it's easily the one that was responsible for ushering in this age of unscripted TV.
Now, some people might see this as a good thing and others might see it as bad, but I love it. Sure, a lot of reality TV is crap, but a lot of it is really fun, or at least a great guilty pleasure. Survivor is and has always been one of my favorites. The Palau season was a great one that featured ridiculously one-sided tribes, the beginning of the Steph dynasty, and lots of twists, turns, scheming, and backstabbing. In short, it's everything that makes Survivor great.
As with the previous DVD sets, Survivor: Palau comes with a generous helping of extra features.
* Welcome to Palau (10 minutes) - A retrospective featurette on the season. * Playing the Game (10 minutes) - The survivors discuss their game strategies. * Down to the Wire (10 minutes) - A look at Steph's ability to not get voted out. * Battle For Sole Survivor (11 minutes) - The survivor's recall the race for the finish line. * Commentaries - Eight of the survivors provide five episode commentaries.
I won't give away the ending for anyone who has yet to watch this season, but it was one of the rare times when one of my favorite competitors actually won the competition. If you love good reality TV, this is it at its finest.
Overall Picture: Show: A- DVD: B+
