Goldie E. Schaffner, 77, formerly of Fayette, Ohio, departed from this life to be with her heavenly father on Saturday morning, October 31, 2009, at the Avalon by Otterbein in Monclova, Ohio. Goldie was surrounded by her loving family and caregivers until God called her home. She was born May 28, 1932, in Rainelle, West Virginia to the late Clarence M. and Rosa “Olivia” (Nutter) Kirby. Goldie married Paul G. Schaffner on June 25, 1994, in Perrysburg, OH, and he preceded her in death on March 26, 2009.
Goldie worked in housekeeping for St. Luke’s Hospital for 15 years, and at the Holiday Inn in Perrysburg for eight years. She also cleaned homes for numerous people. Goldie worked hard in her life at whatever she did. Her places of worship over past 45 years included the Bethel Assembly of God in Perrysburg, the Delta Assembly of God in Delta, and the First Baptist Church in Wauseon, where she sang in the choir and participated in women’s ministries. She enjoyed her crafts and gardening. Goldie was loved by her family, and although she is missed, her family finds comfort in the rejoice of her homecoming.
Surviving Goldie are three daughters, Shirley (Hap) Warner of Toledo, Char (Randy) Samko of Toledo, and Tina (Dave) Hadley of Monclova; one son, Danny (Vella) Williams of Toledo; four brothers, seven sisters, eleven grandchildren, and four great-great grandchildren.
Goldie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Paul, and a brother, Arie Kirby.
A funeral service for Goldie Schaffner will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., at the Eagle Funeral Home-Barrett Chapel in Fayette with Pastor Randy Trowbridge officiating.
